This is a record of an interview with the late Nun Fu Hui, who sought at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. She now resides in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects upon her life and her profound dedication to healing the suffering of sentient beings. It was recorded by the chief writer, Shi Fajing, on February 8, 2021.

Nun Fu Hui speaks:

"Namo Amituofo. Practitioner Su, venerable monastics, and all virtuous ones, Namo Amituofo. Before I begin this interview, there is one thing I must do first: express my deepest gratitude. Without the help of Practitioner Su, I would never have had the Causal Conditions to arrive in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. I have always held a heart of gratitude toward Practitioner Su. Witnessing the magnificent scenes of Chao Du performed by Practitioner Su in this world, I am truly filled with awe. There is truly no one else in this world who can perform such deliverance. From the entire Earth, the Milky Way, and the universe, to the demon crowds beyond the universe—all have received the compassionate salvation of Practitioner Su.

To me, saving people was simply something I had to do—I would just go straight ahead, without fear. In this regard, I feel I was very much like Practitioner Su. As long as it meant helping others, I dared to charge forward; I dared to do anything. I believed from the very beginning that for every ounce of effort I put in, the Bodhisattvas would grant me an ounce of blessing; for ten ounces of effort, they would grant me ten ounces of blessing. I could truly sense the Bodhisattvas. I knew that Avalokiteshvara was truly bestowing strength upon me. However, the suffering my physical body endured was something the Bodhisattvas could not take away, for that was the price I had to pay to save sentient beings."

The Weight of Human Suffering

"Why did I want to save people? It was simply so they would not have to suffer. Human beings live in this world, enduring the full measure of the sufferings of birth, aging, sickness, and death. Once a person falls ill, their life begins to change. If medicine and doctors cannot cure them, life feels as though it has fallen into an abyss of hopelessness. Day after day, they are tormented by illness, living in fear, anxiety, and unease—it is as if they are living in a human hell. Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva is of great ; when sentient beings have a sincere feeling, the Bodhisattva responds. There is no distinction of status, no distance too far. As long as suffering beings call out to the Bodhisattva, she can save them. I could sense the Bodhisattva, and I knew she wanted me to save people. Therefore, I made a vow to save others, hoping that through the power of the Bodhisattva, all the followers who came to me for healing could find their symptoms alleviated or even be restored to a healthy life through her compassionate assistance.

My life was not legendary; I was merely an ordinary person using a small, humble amount of strength to help others. People in the world called me the 'Master of Saving the World,' but I did not dare to accept such a title. I was simply fulfilling my duty; this was my mission. I knew that the followers who came to me for healing all hoped to be cured. Some believed in the Bodhisattva, and some did not. Regardless, I learned from the Bodhisattva’s compassion—as long as someone came for help, I would certainly assist them. Through the of Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva, I used Great Compassion Water and the power of my thoughts to treat their illnesses. As long as they were sincere, the Great Compassion Water could heal their ailments. During this process, many people disapproved, but no matter what words of criticism or slander came from the outside, I remained unmoved. Saving sentient beings was my responsibility, and I would not retreat. For this reason, I did not speak a single word for twenty years. One of the reasons I maintained silence was to prevent sentient beings from creating negative by slandering me because of something I might have said. As long as I remained silent, they would not create such verbal karma."

The Hidden Reality of

"Practitioner Su has revealed that within every cell of the human body reside one's own karmic creditors from accumulated lifetimes. At the time, I did not fully understand this, but I knew that when a person falls ill, it is the result of negative causes created in the past, and the retribution they are receiving in this life. I also knew that the moment I began to heal others, I was intervening in their karma. Therefore, every time I finished treating a follower, my own body would feel unwell, because their karmic creditors would come to find me, seeking justice. These karmic creditors would quickly enter my body. Even when I chanted mantras or sat in meditation, I could not resist their power; I let them invade my physical body repeatedly. I did not have a single complaint, nor did I need anyone to know—this was something I was meant to endure. At the time, even though my body was in agony, I would act as if nothing was wrong, because I chose to let go of this body. From the moment I decided to become a monastic in my early twenties, I told myself that I must let go of this body. Only by letting go of this body would I have the ability to save others. Afterward, I used ascetic practices to temper myself, such as surviving only on blessed Great Compassion Water and not craving worldly food, all to ensure I would no longer be attached to this body.

I treated thousands, even tens of thousands of people. For every person I treated, there were that many sentient beings residing within me. Whether it was damage to the skin or injuries to the internal organs, to me, it was not worth mentioning. These were not the important things; I had long ago dedicated my body to sentient beings. Helping the followers who came for help was the only thing that mattered. Toward the end, my body could no longer bear the load, but I could still endure. When the pain was intense, I would often enter a deep meditative state, using this method to avoid feeling the suffering. As long as I could endure it, I could continue to treat others; as long as I still had this breath, the work of saving people would not be interrupted."

The Path to True Liberation

"The followers who sought help recovered their health through the Great Compassion Water, and in the world, they praised me excessively, bestowing many beautiful names upon me. Being indifferent to fame and wealth, I did not need these extra praises. I was not as miraculous as they claimed. Therefore, I hoped that everyone who came to see me would not speak such words of praise. Just treat me as an ordinary person who has the ability to sense Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva and use her Great Compassion Water to help them alleviate their symptoms—that is all.

How can sentient beings truly leave suffering behind? I helped human beings heal their illnesses, but could they truly leave suffering behind? I feel very ashamed, because sentient beings could not leave suffering behind through this alone; in fact, they were living in even greater suffering. Perhaps you do not understand why it would be 'even greater suffering'—not being able to escape the cycle of reincarnation is the greatest suffering of all. I did not teach sentient beings how to escape reincarnation, and I myself had not been liberated from it. If it were not for the rescue of Practitioner Su, no one would have known that I went to the second heaven of the desire realm. During the period when my life was about to end, my body had been ravaged by sentient beings; but I did not regret it. This life and this body were meant to be used to save others. If letting these followers' karmic creditors enter my body allowed the followers to find relief from their pain, then that was a good thing. I drank Great Compassion Water every day, and I believed in its power; when I was in pain, it could soothe my agony, but it could not eradicate it completely because the sentient beings had not left me—they were still hiding in my body. When my body could no longer withstand the invasion of these beings, my life had to end. At the age of fifty-six, my lifespan came to an end. At that time, I felt extremely unwell, and I used the method of entering meditation to alleviate the pain; but this time, my body truly could not bear it, and I was well aware of my own situation. In that moment, I still did not regret it. I would not regret using my own life to help sentient beings, because the suffering of sentient beings is a thousand times more painful than what I endured; what I suffered was not worth mentioning. As my spirit was about to leave my body, I continuously chanted the holy name of Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva in my heart until I saw golden light appear before my eyes. I immediately followed it and entered the heavenly realm, but I had not reached the Western Pure Land. My worldly life ended at fifty-six.

Practitioner Su, in his great compassion, used his several years ago to lead me from the heavenly realm to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. I knelt and bowed in gratitude to Practitioner Su, feeling endless appreciation. Upon arriving in the West, I continued my diligent practice, listening to the sutras and hearing the under the assembly of Namo Amituofo, and chanting the holy name of Namo Amituofo."

A Call to the Fourfold Assembly

"In the West, I can see the situation of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia every day. Practitioner Su uses Dharma-Body Visualisation Deliverance, leading the fourfold assembly of disciples every day to save sentient beings in the spiritual realms who have no hope of escape. Practitioner Su's Dharma Body can also heal people. The way Practitioner Su heals is by truly resolving the conflicts with sentient beings and then inviting them out of the bodies of the karmic creditors. Practitioner Su acts as a mediator, resolving the hatred between the karmic creditors and the debtors based on Truth and the righteous path. He helps sentient beings return to the past—to the time before they were harmed by the debtors—helping the karmic creditors forget that past pain and resentment. They no longer cling to the space of seeking revenge, no longer feel sad or pained, and no longer seek retribution, thus allowing the conflict to be resolved. Only then did I realize that the methods I used when treating people were prone to harming sentient beings. For example, when I visualized driving away the sentient beings from the affected area or used the method of patting the affected area to drive them away, the sentient beings were extremely angry at that moment, all wanting to attack me and put me to death. Saving sentient beings requires someone like Practitioner Su, who helps them open up space and leads them out of the debtor's body to be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. Only in this way can it be for the benefit of both the living and the deceased, helping human beings alleviate their illnesses while also helping the karmic creditors within their bodies find liberation.

Saving people has always been my wish, because sentient beings are truly too miserable! While I was in the world, although I practised diligently and took suffering as my teacher, my strength remained humble and limited. Now that I have returned to the West, I realize that without Namo Amituofo, one cannot save the world. Only by teaching sentient beings to chant the holy name of Namo Amituofo and seek rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss can sentient beings truly leave suffering behind.

Disciples of the Daxing Shan Temple, since I left, the temple has changed a lot. No matter how it changes, do not forget to save people and save the world; that was my original vow when I first established the bodhimanda. Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva saves those in suffering, responding to a thousand prayers in a thousand places; but without Namo Amituofo, sentient beings cannot return to the West. You must teach sentient beings to chant the Buddha's name to leave suffering behind and seek rebirth in the West; this is the foundation of our practice. I am very grateful to Practitioner Su of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia. Without Practitioner Su, I would still be in the heavenly realm today and would not have been able to be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. Practitioner Su compassionately saves the world, and after attaining the Dharma Body, he is busy saving sentient beings every day. In this age of the Dharma’s decline, Practitioner Su has made a great vow to save the Earth. In the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, I immediately joined the ranks of those chanting the Buddha's name, following Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva, Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva, and the Western sages to chant together around the Earth, wishing to guide the deviated Earth back to the right path so that the Earth can be saved and sentient beings will not continue to suffer. Everything Practitioner Su does is for the benefit of sentient beings and is worthy of his disciples' learning and emulation. People in the world always have discriminations, but the Buddha's teachings have no such distinctions. Regardless of the Dharma door, anyone who has achieved success in their practice is worthy of our praise and learning. Namo Amituofo is truly residing at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia to save beings. I hope you will come here and be able to speak a few words with me.

Namo Amituofo.
