What exactly are attached spirits? These are beings from the ghost realm who drift through space and possess the ability to enter and exit the human body. They are not distant entities; they are often closer than we realise. When our every thought and intention, or our Body, Speech, and Mind, resonate with the frequency of these spirits, we inadvertently create an opportunity for them to attach themselves to us.
There is a vast variety of such beings. They may include the spirits of adults, children, men, women, or infants. Some are spirits of those who suffered from illness, physical disabilities, or accidental death. Even the spirits of animals, such as cats or dogs, can become attached spirits. If your personal energy field, your habitual thoughts, or your way of speaking aligns with a particular type of spirit, it becomes very easy for that spirit to enter your body and reside there.
The process of attachment is often subtle but profound. For instance, those who frequently interact with ghost deities are more prone to having such entities enter their bodies. Children are often susceptible to the attachment of infant spirits. Individuals with strong personalities, deep-seated anger, or intense hatred may attract demon crowds. Similarly, those who harbour heavy greed are more likely to be affected by spirits from the hungry ghost realm. For those who have developed the ability to see into the spiritual realms, these attachments are clearly visible.
Our bodies are not as impenetrable as we might think. The pores of our skin serve as gateways between our internal environment and the external space. Attached spirits can enter through these pores or simply cling to the surface of our skin. When these spirits accumulate within the body, they join forces with our to form a dense, negative energy field. This collective energy places a heavy burden on our physical form, pressing against our cells and internal organs. Over time, this leads to a decline in the function of our organs and cells, manifesting as premature ageing or chronic illness.
The Buddha-name is a source of pure, virtuous energy. If you chant all the way, the majestic power of the Buddha-light and the Buddha-name will manifest, effectively preventing these spirits from attaching to you. However, it is essential that the Buddha-name you chant carries this positive energy and is supported by the Buddha's . Only then can the Buddha-name exert its full protective effect.
The character of attached spirits is as changeable and impermanent as the human heart. Among them, demon crowds are also a form of attached spirit. Because these beings cause significant changes to our body, mind, and spirit, it is a primary duty for every practitioner to avoid such attachments. You must strive to maintain a state of purity and goodness in your body, mind, and spirit. By purifying your speech and intentions, being cautious with every thought, and strictly upholding the to avoid creating negative , you will create the necessary conditions for becoming an awakened being.
Attached spirits are beings from the ghost and spiritual realms. They often cling to a human host to absorb energy or vitality, which is why those who suffer from many attachments often experience persistent fatigue, weakness, and a lack of physical strength. Once a spirit has entered the body, it is rarely willing to leave, as the body provides shelter from the elements and a steady supply of energy.
However, there is a way to resolve this. Through dedicated practice, purification, listening to the sutras and hearing the , and participating in Resolving conflicts with karmic creditors through mediation and spiritual deliverance, these attached spirits, karmic creditors, and demon crowds are given the opportunity to receive the merits of deliverance. This allows them to leave the body, depart from the ghost and evil realms, and enter the path of Goodness.
