The Vessel of Past Deeds

The term Body refers to a physical form that serves as a vessel for the consequences of one's past . For the fourfold assembly, until one has successfully transformed their karma, this physical body remains a Karmic Retribution Body. It is a manifestation of the causes and conditions we have sown in previous lifetimes, now ripening into the form we inhabit today.

Consider the vast array of life that surrounds us here in Australia. From the domestic animals that share our homes to the wild creatures of the earth, all are bound by this same law of retribution:

  • Domestic Animals: Cats, dogs, cattle, horses, pigs, sheep, and chickens.
  • Marine Life: Fish, shrimp, crabs, and shellfish.
  • Avian and Amphibian Life: Birds of the sky and frogs of the wetlands.
  • Small Creatures: Insects, ants, snakes, and all manner of crawling and creeping beings.
  • Plant Life: Even the flowers, grasses, and trees are expressions of this karmic cycle.

Every one of these beings is currently experiencing the results of their past actions through their specific physical form.

The Endless Wandering of the Spirit

When the current life of a being within the six realms of rebirth comes to an end, where does that spirit go? The destination is determined entirely by the weight of one's karma:

  • The Three Good Realms: One may be reborn in the heavenly realms, among the spirit realm beings, or once again obtain a human body.
  • The Three Evil Realms: One may fall into the lower realms, taking on the form of an animal to endure further suffering.
  • The Spirit Realm: Some become a spirit without a body, existing as attached spirits that cling to human bodies or other living entities.

These attached spirits may move in and out of a physical body at will. When the host body passes away, the spirit may depart to seek another vessel, or it may enter into the life of another earthly creature, continuing its journey through the cycle of rebirth.

The Direct Path to Liberation

If you wish to transform your Karmic Retribution Body, you must begin with your mental notes and your physical actions. Practice is a shortcut, a direct path out of the cycle of suffering. Having obtained a human body, you possess the rare and precious opportunity to engage in True Cultivation.

Through the diligent practice of cultivating the mind, purification, and changing your personality traits, you can transform your karma and rediscover your true self. When this is achieved, you are no longer bound by the Karmic Retribution Body. You have effectively stepped out of the cycle of rebirth.

to the True Self

The wonderful method for transforming karma lies in the present moment. There is no past and no future; there is only the now. In this very moment, you must tell yourself: I am a Buddha, and I have come to save all beings. You must chant one Buddha's name to the end, with unwavering focus.

When you reach the state of , you no longer create the karma that leads to rebirth. You are no longer a Karmic Retribution Body. Instead, you become a manifestation of your own true self—a pure, enlightened being who can come and go with , forever liberated from the constraints of the past.
