To look forward is to unfold hope. The Buddha’s teachings often remind us to live in the present moment, but one might ask: how can we truly unfold hope while remaining grounded in the present? The answer lies in the understanding that every single moment is an opportunity to manifest hope. When you embrace this perspective, the depth and breadth of your life are no longer constrained by past regrets or future anxieties. Instead, your potential is fully unleashed.
By unfolding hope in every moment, you live out the true meaning and promise of your existence. You will no longer squander your precious time, mental focus, or physical strength on things that do not serve your spiritual growth. Specifically, you must learn to let go of the following obstacles: delusion, discrimination, and attachment, as well as messy thoughts and idle thinking. These factors are the primary causes of our afflictions and the reason our energy is constantly depleted. When you live in hope, you cease to be a victim of these mental habits.
Every moment you live in hope is a moment you have mastered. If you do not strive with diligent practice in each passing second, how can you expect to achieve the fruits of your labour? Whether you are engaged in diligent practice or reaching a new level of spiritual achievement, remember that your efforts are not for yourself alone. They are dedicated to the noble goal of benefiting all beings and helping them leave suffering behind.
To the students of Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre, this mission is yours to carry. The hope for all beings to attain rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss and the bright future of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre are responsibilities that you must shoulder together.
Do not let your time slip away in vain. You must cherish every minute and every second. Live out the purity of chanting Namo Amituofo and the transformative power of purification. When you look forward from the present, you are not merely waiting for the future; you are creating it. Through this practice, you will realise your true nature as an awakened being and become a Buddha right here, in this very moment.
