The Nature of Your Innate Potential

When we speak of potential, we are referring to the latent capabilities that reside within every being. In truth, this potential is nothing other than your original self-nature. Within this true self, there exist countless natural abilities that are currently obscured by the dust of our afflictions. As you engage in the process of purification and accumulate merit and virtue, these dormant capabilities will gradually manifest. Therefore, the entire journey of spiritual practice is essentially a process of uncovering and unleashing your innate potential.

This development is not about creating something new, for these qualities are already yours by nature. Through diligent practice, you allow this potential to emerge. To begin this process, you must focus your efforts on the heart. Purification is the most vital condition for success, and spiritual practice is the swiftest and most effective method to achieve this.

The Foundation of Discipline and Wisdom

The path of practice begins with the observance of the . By maintaining discipline, you naturally generate meditative concentration. It is through this concentration that your inherent wisdom is allowed to shine forth. When you possess both the strength of concentration and the utility of wisdom, you will no longer be swayed or disturbed by the changing conditions of the external world. This stability is the fundamental skill required to develop your potential.

However, there are significant obstacles that hinder the manifestation of your true nature. You must be prepared to let go of the following, as they serve only to interfere with and pollute your progress:

  • The : Greed, Anger, Ignorance, Arrogance, and Doubt.
  • The : Wealth, lust, fame, food, and sleep.

These afflictions and the resulting negative act as heavy veils. They block your potential from surfacing and prevent you from functioning at your highest capacity. You must be resolute in your determination to abandon these attachments.

Walking the Right Path

The specific nature of the potential that manifests after purification depends on your own efforts. Often, the abilities that were developed in your past lives will be the first to emerge. As you continue to purify your heart—striving for ever-greater purity and Goodness—your potential will eventually manifest in its entirety. This is the moment of .

As a practitioner, you must maintain a clear understanding of your direction. If you find that natural abilities are beginning to emerge, you must ensure that their application is always aligned with the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way. These gifts are to be used for saving yourself and helping all beings, never for the pursuit of fame, profit, or personal gain.

The Power of Single-Minded Devotion

To successfully uncover your potential and seek the , it is essential to listen to the sutras and follow the practice of "arouse the mind and single-mindedly recite Namo Amituofo." This is the most vital method in your journey toward Awakening. Under the Buddha's and the watchful care of Namo Amituofo, you can maintain a pure and virtuous body, heart, and spirit, ensuring that you do not stray onto crooked paths. By doing so, the natural abilities you develop will remain on the righteous path, serving the purpose of salvation rather than being exploited by demon crowds to create further negative karma.

This is the time when you will truly be able to save yourself and save others. Namo Amituofo.
