Teachings from Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju, recorded and transcribed by ’s disciple, Venerable HaiZe.
On the first of May, 2026, Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju offered these profound insights regarding the nature of our existence.
We must ask ourselves a vital question: Who is the master of this body? Is it your true self, or is it the various beings who have attached themselves to you? These may include your , attached spirits, or even demon crowds. When your true self is the one in charge, your Body-Mind-Spirit will naturally be in harmony. You will find that your life moves in a positive, constructive direction. To truly engage in practice, one must ensure that the true self is the master of the body; only then is there a genuine opportunity to reach the state of an awakened being.
If your body is being controlled by karmic creditors, the situation is quite different. Because these beings have come to seek revenge and repay grievances, the result of their influence will inevitably be negative. Even if things appear to be improving on the surface, the ultimate outcome will lead to suffering or the accumulation of negative . However, if the beings in control are those who have come to repay a kindness, the results will be positive. Although there may be moments of difficulty or apparent suffering, the ultimate direction of this influence is toward leaving suffering behind, leading to a more profound and expansive state of being. Once the debt of gratitude has been repaid, these beings can peacefully depart, and a karmic burden is resolved. This is the general manifestation of and the causes and effects.
When the body is controlled by demon crowds, the consequences are severe. Your Body, Speech, and Mind will inevitably lean toward negative traits:
For the karmic creditors, once they have chosen to let go or have accepted the resolution of their grievances and departed, the danger is not yet over. If the true self is still unable to take control, the next karmic creditor, attached spirit, or demon will simply manifest to take their place. This is the continuous, unfolding process of karma.
It is important to understand that different spirits can control different parts of the body simultaneously, or a single spirit may take full control of the entire form. This is why we experience such varied and often painful physical conditions. Different spirits may take charge of specific areas, such as:
This is the reality of a body governed by karma, where one cannot truly be the master. Because your thoughts, physical actions, and speech are being directed by these various beings, the body remains in a state of constant, unpredictable change. This state of being, where one is unable to take control, highlights the absolute necessity of practice. By seeking the state of an awakened being and reclaiming your true self, you can finally become the master of your own life. Namo Amituofo.
