This is a record of an interview with Hu Fulian, the grandfather of Lay Practitioner Liang Huiyuan, who sought at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. He now resides in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects upon his journey to deliverance and his message to his family. Recorded by the chief writer, Fa Ning, on January 9, 2026.
Hu Fulian speaks:
". I have finally arrived at the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss! It feels as though I have been here for a long time, yet in truth, it has only been a few hours since I was in the human world. My group and I were officially guided by Practitioner Su to the Buddha-land of Namo Amituofo just recently. It is truly miraculous. I had been a spirit for such a long time, wandering in the shadows, when suddenly, a brilliant light descended and completely overwhelmed me. I did not even have the chance to form a single thought of wanting to go anywhere; I knew nothing of what was happening, and in an instant, I found myself sitting serenely upon a lotus seat. I later learned that this place was the , located right there at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia."
"I had wondered for so long, back when I was alive and even during my time as a spirit, where one goes after death. In my youth, I was ignorant of such things and never gave them much thought. But to encounter the true Buddha, Namo Amituofo, in such a magnificent way—I, Hu Fulian, must have accumulated some deep to be so fortunate! I am filled with such immense gratitude toward Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su. It was only through their extraordinary skills and meditative concentration that they were able to find me in the vastness of the spirit realms.
I am especially grateful to my dear granddaughter, Liang Huiyuan. She may not have always seemed the most brilliant to others, but she is honest, sincere, and kind-hearted. I realise now that she is actually the wisest one in our entire family! She possessed the vision to recognise the true treasure—Namo Amituofo and the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. That alone proves she is incredibly intelligent and blessed. She has a truly good heart, though she still has her own personality quirks—haha, your grandfather sees everything quite clearly from here!"
"I am so deeply thankful to my granddaughter. Although we never met in person because I passed away so long ago, your filial piety and your vast, compassionate heart have not only helped many of our family members but have also planted wonderful seeds of goodness for yourself. This is your own great blessing! I see you here from the Pure Land—you look so small and thin, and I just want to tell you: you must truly find happiness! Do not let yourself be weighed down by too many trivial matters, especially the sensations of . Whether they are good or bad, they are all ultimately illusory. You are nearly sixty years old now, are you not? Life is so incredibly short, and having reached this age, you should understand that one must cultivate a greater, more expansive heart. Just as you have shown such a vast heart by performing Chao Du for us, you must apply that same to yourself. Do not dwell on things so much; you will find that your life becomes something entirely different. This is what your grandfather sees for you from the Western -Nature Land, and I hope you will not take my words to heart in a negative way!"
"Speaking of my own blessings, perhaps it is because, even when I was a spirit, I considered myself a 'good spirit.' Although my death was agonizing and my time in the spirit realm was difficult, I silently hoped that everyone else could be well—at the very least, I did not want them to suffer the same fate as I did. I tried my best to guard what I felt was right and to help people whenever I could. Even though I could not do much, I held onto those good thoughts. I hoped that all goodness and all virtuous intentions would silently spread happiness and hope to others.
Ultimately, I want to say that while living in this world, one must do good deeds. You will never suffer a loss by doing so. Even though I did not understand the greatness of Namo Amituofo or the Buddha in the past, my subtle, kind intentions and my magnificent Buddhist affinity allowed me to truly encounter the Buddha! Therefore, if you are fortunate enough to meet the Buddha, you must have deep faith—true, unwavering faith—and follow the Buddha's footsteps. Everyone's path will become much broader and brighter if they do so."
"The beauty of the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss cannot be described in a few words; it is truly, absolutely magnificent! My entire body, mind, and spirit feel completely at ease, so peaceful and comfortable. It is very much like the descriptions in the sutras, yet it is even better—infinitely better. Therefore, everyone must chant Namo Amituofo more diligently. If you have the chance to know the Buddha, you must seize it firmly. Let every thought be of the Buddha. If you all follow Practitioner Su and charge forward together, there will certainly come a day when you realise your true nature!"
Namo Amituofo.
