A Grandmother's Return to the Western Pure Land

This is a record of an interview with Lay Practitioner Lin Yu, who sought Chao Du at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia. She now resides in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects upon her journey and her message to her granddaughter, Liang Huiyuan. Lay Practitioner Lin Yu speaks:

"Namo Amituofo to everyone. Namo Amituofo to Practitioner Su, and Namo Amituofo to all! I am now a resident of the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, and this is something that keeps me smiling with joy. I never imagined that the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss was so close to us. In an instant, I stepped onto a lotus flower and arrived here. I did not hesitate for even a moment; I knew I wanted to be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. I have also seen my late husband here; he shares the same tremendous blessings as I do, and he, too, has arrived right by the side of the Buddha. Namo Amituofo, I have finally returned home!

A Debt of Gratitude

I am so deeply grateful to Namo Amituofo for allowing me the opportunity to return to your world. I am also filled with gratitude for Practitioner Su, who has realised her true nature in the human world. Because of her, we suffering beings in these various spaces can finally be free from our pain. I am also so thankful for my wonderful granddaughter, Huiyuan. She possesses such tremendous blessings to have had the opportunity to come to the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. This is truly a great blessing for our entire family!

Thinking back, I realise that I have known the Buddha for many lifetimes. I have known Namo Amituofo for many, many ages and have chanted the Buddha's name before. It was only in this most recent life that my karma was too heavy, preventing me from chanting well enough to achieve rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss on my own. Yet, to have this method of deliverance—to be saved and brought back to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss—I am already so incredibly grateful!

The Splendour of the Pure Land

Seeing the scene before me here in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, I am absolutely dumbfounded. Truly, only a Buddha could create such a world. Everything is so dignified and beautiful. I am sitting inside one of the pavilions, and sometimes, my pavilion will spontaneously fly out and then return to its original place. The Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss appears so bright and luminous; it is far better than the space I inhabited after my death!

A Grandmother's Advice

I can also see my granddaughter, Huiyuan. Not long ago, because she came to know the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, she became a completely different person. Although she is still small and slender, her entire spirit and vitality are transformed. From here, we can see very clearly: there is a vast difference between those who have the Buddha-light and those who do not. Huiyuan, since you have such tremendous blessings, you must truly cherish them. You are not married, and there is nothing better than dedicating your life to learning the Dharma. After all, you are not young anymore. Please, chant Namo Amituofo diligently and follow the Buddha closely. While you are in the human world, do as much as you can, because the Buddha appearing in the world is a rare and difficult-to-encounter event. You know this clearly in your heart, don't you?

A Responsibility to Others

Well, Grandma knows you will do it. You are a person of great wisdom to have delivered so many of your relatives; everyone is deeply moved, and we are all so grateful for this opportunity. If you have the chance, please help introduce Namo Amituofo and this special place, the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, to everyone in Singapore. There are many people there who study Buddhism, but they have not yet had the chance to come to the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. Therefore, your responsibility is great! By saving yourself, you will surely be able to save many more people! Well, Grandma will stop here. You must cherish your life! I also hope that more people will come to know Namo Amituofo and the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. This is Grandma's most sincere blessing.
