Wengze Anling speaks:
"Namo Amituofo. My name is Wengze Anling. I was an intellectual who had the rare fortune to study abroad in the West after the end of Japan's policy of national isolation. My path was paved by the unwavering support and encouragement of my parents. My father, a dedicated public servant, felt deeply that the education available within our country was not comprehensive enough. He made the bold decision to send me overseas to broaden my horizons. In those days, for a woman to receive such an education was truly extraordinary. I am profoundly grateful for my father’s investment in my future. I was an only daughter; although my father had hoped for a son, my mother’s health prevented it. He chose to pour all his hopes and resources into me, his only descendant.
A Rare Education and a Forbidden Love
My father was also a physician who worked in a medical clinic. Our family possessed a unique and profound understanding of herbal medicine, passed down through many generations. From the time I was a young child, my father poured his knowledge of these medicinal herbs into me. I discovered that I had a natural, almost uncanny talent for this. I could look at herbs and pharmacology and remember them instantly—it was as if I were born with this knowledge. My parents were astonished. These were complex subjects that usually required years of experience and study for an adult to master, yet I grasped them as if I were simply remembering something I had always known. After much consideration, my father decided that my special talent should not go to waste. He sent me to the West to study medicine, to expand my vision and the depth of my knowledge. Thus, my journey of study in the West began.
During my time abroad, I met the love of my life, a renowned doctor named Robert Hether. Robert treated me with the utmost respect. Because I was an only child, I knew that returning to Japan to care for my aging parents was a duty I could not abandon. Robert understood this perfectly. He set aside his own career and accompanied me back to Japan to build our life together. I am forever grateful for his sacrifice. Initially, my parents found it difficult to accept that I had chosen my own partner, let alone a Westerner. However, once they witnessed Robert’s profound mastery of Western medicine and the sacrifices he made to allow me to fulfil my filial duties, their hearts began to soften. Eventually, they even came to believe that meeting Robert was a true blessing for me.
Life as a Female Physician
Throughout my life in Japan, I continued to serve patients as a female physician. While this was not yet widely accepted in the Japan of that era, my dual expertise in traditional herbal medicine and Western medical practices earned me a reputation. Over time, people grew accustomed to having a female doctor in the community, and I was able to help many who were suffering. After I passed away, I entered the essence of a medicinal herb, becoming a spirit dwelling within it. I found that anyone who consumed this herb with a kind heart would experience double the healing efficacy. If their heart was impure, the effect was merely ordinary. I lived in this state for five hundred years.
The Golden Light of Namo Amituofo
Then, one day, a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner brought me out to the street. I saw a sign for Namo Amituofo. Oh, the brilliance of that golden light! I felt so warm under its radiance, as if my very soul were being healed. I was deeply drawn to it. I followed the sign and chanted, 'Namo Amituofo.' To my amazement, I was instantly liberated from the herb! I knew then that I had to travel to the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia to discover the truth behind this power.
When I arrived at the periphery of the temple, I saw countless spirits gathered there, all seeking Spiritual Deliverance. There were beings of every kind. I witnessed vast waves of golden light appearing alongside the of Practitioner Su. Many spirits were being guided away by this light, and I, too, was gently led into the Western -Nature Land of the temple.
The Great Physician of the Dharma
The Western Dharma-Nature Land is a truly magnificent world. Since arriving here, I feel as though I am becoming clearer and more awake with every passing moment. The Buddha-light shines upon us constantly. I have seen Practitioner Su at the temple using spiritual healing to treat people, and the results are incredibly effective. This is even more profound for spiritual beings like ghosts and spirits. Because of the power of 'Namo Amituofo,' we can transcend space, and our spiritual essence can be restored. I never knew before that the Buddha’s teachings held such power—that they could produce such healing effects for both spirits and humans. It is no wonder that Practitioner Su always refers to Namo Amituofo as the Great Physician.
I, too, wish to learn from this Great Physician. I am currently continuing my purification in the Western Dharma-Nature Land, listening to the sutras and hearing the Dharma. I hope that the day of my full will come soon. The Japanese people are very diligent in their development of medical technology, yet they still cannot escape the fate of aging, sickness, and death. This problem has been solved at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Goombungee, Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia. I hope that those Japanese people who have karmic affinity will come here to seek the Dharma and learn this ultimate science. That would be a true blessing for Japan.
I am filled with gratitude to Namo Amituofo and to Practitioner Su. Namo Amituofo. Wengze Anling."
