An Interview with Chang Yung-fa, Founder of the Evergreen Group
The Second Letter to His Wife
This is a record of an interview with Chang Yung-fa, the founder of the Evergreen Group, who sought spiritual deliverance at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. He now resides in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects his message to his wife, written on June 14, 2017. Recorded by the chief writer, Shi Faxin.
Chang Yung-fa speaks:
"Namo Amituofo. I am Yung-fa, my dear A-Mei! I am currently in a beautiful, magnificent place. After I passed away, I saw how you took care of the company, ensuring everything remained in order. I saw all of it, and I am truly grateful. I am so happy that even after my passing, I am still able to speak with you. I know the previous letters did not reach you, but I hope this letter, specifically addressed to you, finds its way into your hands. When you read these words, you will know in your heart that it is me—there is no mistake."
A Beautiful Place Beyond the Horizon
"The reason I am sending this is to share a profound truth: a person does not have to truly die in the way we once feared! After I passed away, Practitioner Su from the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre brought my spirit to the Centre. This place is directly connected to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. Because of this, I only had to listen to the for a short while before Practitioner Su guided me to the Western Land. Now, I am there, listening to Namo Amituofo expound the Dharma. I can see everything so clearly, and my body feels incredibly comfortable and light, free from all past burdens."
The Truth About Life and Death
"Before I passed away, I was a follower of I-Kuan Tao. Who would have expected that after death, I would end up in the place of Namo Amituofo? But the Law of Cause, Condition, and Effect is mysterious—that is how fate works. The fact that I was able to go there is a result of the Generosity I practised in my past lives and in this current life. I truly hope that you, A-Mei, can come here as well. You have followed me and supported me throughout my entire life, and I am deeply grateful for your devotion."
A Heartfelt Apology and an Invitation
"I must admit, when I was alive, I was often so consumed by the pressures of business that I sometimes neglected your . I am truly sorry—please forgive me! I sincerely hope that you can come to the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. This place is special; it can heal illnesses and help one transcend the cycle of life and death. Although it may be difficult to believe, this is the absolute truth."
"You are a person of great wisdom, so I believe you will be able to grasp the significance of what I am saying. You must come! It would be such a pity if you did not. Once you arrive, you will also be able to help others in need. Do not overthink it! Sometimes, by letting go of your worries and not over-calculating, you can gain so much more than you ever imagined. Believe me. Namo Amituofo."
