Rectifying Body and Mind
Buddha's discourse, recorded by Venerable HaiZe on November 11, 2022, reminds us that the capacity for awakening is an indispensable condition for any practitioner who seeks to realise their true nature. To cultivate this vital faculty, one must engage in intentional practices that nourish the spirit and sharpen the mind.
These practices are essential steps in your journey toward . To open your heart and mind to the Truth, you should focus on listening to sutras and hearing the , engaging in deep self-reflection to rectify your behaviour, and observing the natural world to understand the interconnectedness of all life.
For those dedicated to their practice, the process of Body-Mind-Spirit purification is transformative. Once your body, mind, and spirit have been cleansed, your capacity for awakening unfolds naturally. Within the natural world, you will begin to grasp the true nature of the laws of and cause and effect.
You will come to understand the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way. Even if you have not yet mastered the vast and profound sutras, you will still be able to realise that you, the earth, and all living beings are one inseparable entity. When you reach this level of understanding, you have taken a significant step forward in your practice. If you apply this realisation to your daily actions, your progress will be even more profound.
As this awakening takes root, compassion will naturally arise from within your heart. You will perceive the suffering and helplessness of all beings, bringing forth a deep sense of gratitude for everything you possess. Your efforts will be directed solely toward seeking the Buddha's path and realising your true nature. Consequently, you will become even more focused and persistent in your diligent practice.
At this stage, you will be better equipped to overcome physical and mental obstacles. You will move forward with courage and determination, walking a straight path until you finally realise your true nature. This is the practical reality of having awakening and practice move forward in tandem—a truly precious achievement.
This process requires the foundation of that initial awakening. Only by building upon this base can you continue to move forward and eventually attain the fruit of realising your true nature and becoming a Buddha. The time this takes depends on your individual capacity for awakening, the degree of your diligent practice, and your ability to overcome the problems you face.
Everything must begin with your own self-effort; only then can the Buddha's blessings be effectively received. The Buddha's blessings are bestowed upon you when you are single-mindedly chanting Namo Amituofo, performing prostrations with a pure heart, and maintaining a consistent daily practice. Through these efforts, Namo Amituofo helps you achieve purification, and then more purification. Continue to move forward in this state of clear awakening until you realise your true nature, and together with the Buddha, save yourself and others, reaching the and finding one's own Buddha nature. Namo Amituofo.
