Teachings from Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju:

The aspiration to create lasting peace for ten thousand generations is a profound vision. It expresses a deep hope that the people of this world may enjoy a long-lasting, peaceful existence. This sentiment does not merely reflect the humanitarian spirit of Confucianism or the noble ambitions of a statesman; it also perfectly encapsulates the true purpose and influence of Buddhist education upon our world.

The Foundation of Universal Truth

The Buddha’s teachings are the embodiment of the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way. They possess the unique power to purify the human heart and provide a clear, unwavering direction for our journey through life. Central to this education is the understanding of the laws of and cause and effect. These laws are not man-made rules, but rather the natural, inherent principles of the universe. No one can escape them, for every cause we create is our own, and every consequence we experience is a result of our own actions.

  • Good causes lead to good fruit.
  • Evil causes lead to evil consequences.
  • Everything is determined by oneself, not by others.

Through the light of Buddhist education, individuals begin to develop a sense of vigilance within their own hearts. This awareness generates a powerful force of self-restraint, encouraging us to perform good deeds and refrain from evil. This strength is not merely a fleeting impulse; it is a transformative power that can be sustained throughout one's entire life.

Overcoming the Endless Cycle of Desire

Self-restraint and the commitment to do good while avoiding evil are qualities that are sorely lacking in our modern world. Why is this the case? It is because people live their lives submerged in desire. Desire is like a bottomless pit; it is incredibly difficult to find true satisfaction or peace of mind when one is constantly chasing after more. Where there is desire, there is selfishness. When people strive to satisfy their own private cravings, they are often, in that very moment, planting the seeds of negative causes.

This predicament can be remedied through the application of Buddhist education. The reality of the six realms of rebirth and the workings of are essential lessons in this curriculum. They help people understand the profound truth that good deeds are rewarded with good, evil deeds with evil; it's not that there's no retribution, but that the time has not yet come. Once this principle is deeply understood, the power of self-restraint and the motivation to act with virtue naturally arise.

The Path to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss

Furthermore, Buddhist education allows us to distinguish between the illusory nature of this world and the ultimate reality. By doing so, we no longer lose ourselves in the entanglements of emotion, the vanity of social comparison, or the desperate craving for praise and external validation. Instead, we can make the sincere vow to chant Namo Amituofo and be reborn in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. By choosing this path, we step out of the cycle of rebirth and are no longer subjected to the suffering of birth, aging, sickness, death.

The Light of the Buddha’s Name

Within the framework of Buddhist education, introducing the compassionate figure of and the beauty of the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss is of paramount importance. We teach everyone to chant the sacred name of Namo Amituofo. This six-character name, once it enters the ear, becomes a seed of the Way that will last forever. Even if one does not attain rebirth in this lifetime, there will surely come a time in a future life when they will be saved.

As long as Buddhist education continues to flourish, it will bring stability and peace to the hearts of the living. It encourages all to make the vow to chant Namo Amituofo and be reborn in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. Once one is reborn in that , they will inevitably attain Buddhahood.

A Vision of Lasting Harmony

A nation that embraces these teachings will naturally become a land where the people are kind, virtuous, and down-to-earth, possessing true confidence and inner peace. Such a society will inevitably be blessed by the protection of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, as well as the support of the heavenly guardians and benevolent spirits. In such a state, the weather will be favourable, the country will be prosperous, the people will live in harmony, and peace will endure for a long time. When a nation can achieve such peace, it is the greatest blessing for all its citizens.
