Ending the Days of Wandering
Words of Namo Amituofo
Teachings from Namo Amituofo, recorded and transcribed by Namo Amituofo’s disciple, Venerable HaiZe.
The Long Journey Through the Six Realms
My dear children, you who have been drifting through the six realms of existence for countless lifetimes, you are like children who have lost their way. You wander far from home, living without a fixed place to rest, treating every temporary location as a home, yet never truly finding peace. Your bodies and spirits have never been able to settle, and you have endured the long, weary days of aimless wandering.
Your hearts are constantly buffeted by the winds of circumstance, shifting with every encounter and every karmic connection you make. At times, you are overwhelmed by sentimentality; at other times, you become cold and indifferent. Sometimes you speak your mind with reckless haste, and at other times, you cry out in the depths of agony. In this cycle of rebirth, you find that suffering far outweighs happiness.
The Loss of Your Original Nature
In the midst of this endless journey, you have forgotten the simple, radiant smile of your original nature. You have lost touch with that pure, kind, and carefree essence that is your true heritage. Everything you have experienced—the joys, the sorrows, the triumphs, and the failures—has left its mark upon you. I hope that you can now find the strength to let go of all these past experiences.
Life is like a dream, and the process of living is merely a sequence of fleeting visions. Whether they were beautiful dreams or nightmares, they have all served to cover your spirit and heart with layers of dark, karmic stains. These stains have obscured the light of your true nature, making it difficult for you to see the path back to your true home.
