Teachings from Namo Amituofo:

I first ask the students of the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre: within the span of this limited human life, do you truly have the heart to follow closely in the footsteps of Namo Amituofo, Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju, and Practitioner Su as they work to save all beings? This compassionate vow is the very source of your ability to follow this path. From this moment forward, you must follow closely.

The Essence of Diligent Practice

What does it mean to follow closely? It means to align your heart and actions with the causal practice of Namo Amituofo and the fiercely diligent spirit of Practitioner Su. You must follow closely as Namo Amituofo fulfills the Forty-eight Great Vows, and as Practitioner Su upholds the firm, unyielding vow that one can not grow old, not get sick, and the spirit does not die. You must follow the unwavering determination of Practitioner Su, whose every action is directed toward the singular purpose of saving and liberating suffering beings.

You must overcome and enter into the higher dimensions of space. By following these footsteps of diligent practice, you allow your own cultivation to move forward. Practise Buddha-recitation with vigour; keep the name of Namo Amituofo with you 24/7, never letting it depart from your heart.

The Peril of Losing the Buddha-Name

If you depart from the Buddha and the Buddha-name, you lose your mastery over your own life: If you are without the Buddha for even a second, you cannot be the master of your own life; instead, your or other beings will take control. If you are without the Buddha for a single moment, you lose your autonomy; your actions are dictated by the forces of and the influence of karmic creditors. If you are without the Buddha for an entire day, you surrender your sovereignty; your day is governed by the demands of karmic creditors or the attachments of other beings.

When you are separated from the Buddha and the Buddha-name, you cannot master the cycle of birth, aging, sickness, and death. You become a puppet to your karmic creditors, and your suffering will only compound, leading to a life of profound hardship. If you live your entire life without the Buddha, your entire existence is controlled by karma and the influence of others. Even after the physical body dies, your true self will be forced to endure the consequences of the actions taken by those karmic creditors or beings who controlled you during your life.

The Path to True Mastery

True practice is found only in . When you reach this state, your true self—the sensitive and luminous awareness of an awakened being—becomes the master. Only then can you perform the real work of saving the world and liberating beings. Only then can this physical body truly be under your own control, free from the manipulation of karmic creditors or the interference of other beings.

My children, please follow closely in the footsteps of Practitioner Su, who has attained Awakening and uses the to perform for the salvation of all beings. This is the path to your own Awakening, your own liberation, and your own rebirth in the Western Pure Land, while simultaneously helping all other beings to find their own liberation. Namo Amituofo.
