The Resonance of the Instrument

Within the Buddha's gate, the term 'Dharma instrument' refers to the tools used to uphold and propagate the Dharma. However, we must understand that this term carries a much deeper significance. When we speak of the Dharma, we are referring to the profound wisdom of the Buddha. When a teacher stands before an audience to explain these teachings, that person becomes a living Dharma instrument. Every monastic who has dedicated their life to the path is, in essence, a vessel for the Dharma.

Just as the physical instruments used during the chanting of sutras—such as bells, drums, and wooden fish—produce different sounds depending on the skill of the person playing them, so too do human practitioners resonate with the Dharma in unique ways. A master who knows how to harmonise these instruments can bring forth the most beautiful, uplifting, and transcendent music. This harmony is not merely about sound; it is about the resonance of the heart and the clarity of the spirit.

The Insight of the True Spiritual Friend

A true spiritual friend is one who possesses the profound ability to perceive the unique qualities and potential of every practitioner. They can look beyond the surface, even seeing into the past lives of those they guide. By understanding the karmic history and the inherent nature of each individual, they are able to teach according to one's capacity. This is the art of harmonising the Dharma instruments.

When a teacher guides a practitioner in this way, they allow the individual to shine in their own unique capacity. This approach ensures that the practitioner can focus on their strengths, leading to results that are far more effective than if they were to struggle alone. This ability to nurture and refine talent is essential for the cultivation of those who will eventually propagate the Dharma and save the world.

The Compassionate Guidance of Practitioner Su

Practitioner Su stands as a preeminent example of one who excels in this art of harmonising Dharma instruments. Through his own and the clarity of his vision, he has become a powerful force for saving the world and nurturing new generations of those who propagate the Dharma. His ability to see the truth and guide others is a vital condition for the success of our mission at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre.

The fourfold assembly of disciples must take this opportunity to learn diligently from such a teacher. Every ounce of skill and every moment of progress you achieve is the result of your own practice, purification, and the gradual realisation of your true nature.

A Call to Diligent Practice and Awakening

The path of the practitioner is vast and requires a steadfast commitment. There are many essential skills that the fourfold assembly must strive to master:

  • Dharma talks: The ability to clearly and compassionately explain the teachings of the Buddha to others.
  • Dharma-Body Visualisation Deliverance: The profound practice of helping suffering beings find liberation.
  • Resolve the conflict: The capacity to invite spirits and settle the grievances of , bringing peace to both the living and the departed.
  • Faith in Namo Amituofo: An unwavering trust in the Buddha's vow to guide us back to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
  • Spiritual Qualities: The cultivation of true awareness, unyielding perseverance, and the firm determination to reach Buddhahood.

Do not let these precious moments pass you by in vain. Every action you take, every chant you recite, and every effort you make to purify your body, mind, and spirit brings you closer to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. You must cherish the time you have and commit yourself fully to the path of Awakening. Namo Amituofo.
