The True Nature of Experience
Words of Namo Amituofo, recorded and transcribed by Namo Amituofo’s disciple, Venerable HaiZe.
There is a common saying in the world: "One does not grow in Wisdom (Prajna) without experiencing an event." People often believe that the things we encounter in life are the primary means of increasing our Wisdom (Prajna). However, this is merely a perspective based on worldly knowledge. In truth, if one has not yet begun to transform , whether the events we experience actually lead to Wisdom (Prajna) is entirely dependent on the unfolding of our karmic destiny. These experiences are simply the manifestation of the laws of karma and cause and effect.
Transforming Karma Through Reflection
If you are a practitioner who wishes to transform karma, you must be diligent in your self-reflection. When you consider the harm caused by your personality traits and your past mistakes, you must take these lessons to heart. To truly progress, you should:
- Change your personality traits that lead to conflict or harm.Ensure that the mistakes you have made in the past are never repeated.Avoid creating new negative causes that will inevitably lead to evil consequences.Prevent the manifestation of heavy karma that interferes with your practice and hinders the growth of your Body-Mind-Spirit.
The Significance of Small Actions
There is a profound teaching that says: "Do not ignore small evils, and do not neglect small virtues." You must take this lesson seriously. Even the most subtle habits of your personality can create interference or cause you to commit unintentional mistakes. By changing your personality or immediately correcting your faults, you ensure that you do not repeat the same errors. This is the essence of purification; it prevents you from falling into the same traps and suffering the same results again and again.
The Path to
Learning from your lessons and refusing to repeat past mistakes is a vital condition for progress in your practice. This process increases your Wisdom (Prajna) and helps to elevate the quality of your spirits. It is a necessary requirement for those who desire to become an awakened being. A wise person is one who can observe the faults of others or witness the sufferings of birth, aging, sickness, death, and learn from these experiences. By taking these lessons to heart, the wise person ensures they do not commit the same errors themselves.
The Urgency of the Present
Human life is limited. If you spend your time repeating the same mistakes over and over, you will find it difficult to take charge of your own life. You will continue to create karma, suffer the consequences of the laws of karma and cause and effect, and lose the opportunity to realise your true nature. When your spirits and body gradually wither and lose their strength, you will be reincarnated once more. This is truly an unwise path. Therefore, cherish every moment, learn from every lesson, and walk firmly on the path toward the .
