A Discourse Recorded by Venerable HaiZe
October 13, 2024
Recorded and transcribed by Namo Amituofo’s disciple, Venerable HaiZe.
On the thirteenth of October, 2024, during the midday offering, Namo Amituofo provided these teachings:
My child, human life is incredibly precious, a rare opportunity that you must not allow to pass by in vain. To possess a human body and to be able to enter into the path of practice is already a significant achievement. Most people are burdened by heavy spiritual obstacles, and in this -ending age, the hearts of people are often clouded by many impurities. It is truly difficult to attain a state of genuine purity.
The Path to Liberation
However, you have been fortunate enough to hear this great Dharma that leads to the liberation from the cycle of rebirth. By entering the gate of the Dharma Gate to practise, you are engaging in the essential work of removing defilements and attaining purity. Developing the skill of Buddha-recitation is the fundamental requirement for your practice. How can the fourfold assembly of disciples—monks, nuns, laymen, and laywomen—achieve success in their practice?
- You must put in the work to cultivate your concentration.
- Keep every thought focused on Namo Amituofo.
- Ensure that the Buddha is present in your heart, your speech, your actions, and your every moment.
When you live this way, every day becomes fulfilling and nothing is wasted.
The Daily Foundation of Practice
Your daily lessons are the cornerstone of your progress. If you can engage in these activities without falling into a state of being drowsy, you have already begun your day in a state of fullness:
- Prostrations: Bowing to the Buddha to humble the ego.
- Chanting the Buddha's name: Keeping the mind anchored in the light of Namo Amituofo.
- Reciting the Sutras: Absorbing the Wisdom of the teachings into your very being.
Finding the Buddha in Every Moment
You may ask, where is the Buddha? The Buddha is not found solely within the continuous stream of the Buddha-name. The Buddha is present everywhere:
- In every move you make and every action you take.
- In your daily life—in the food you eat, the clothes you wear, and the places you reside.
- In the expression of your and the depth of your Wisdom.
- In the way you treat others with kindness and .
- In the state of Dharma joy that fills your heart.
There is Buddha in every single minute and every single second. You must never let your mind stray from the Buddha, until you finally awaken the Buddha within—the true self, the of your own nature.
and Buddhahood
When you reach Awakening, you will see that your very body is the Buddha. Every cell in your being resonates with the light of the Buddha. From that point on, your work to save beings will never cease, and you will continue to live a life that is completely fulfilling, never letting a single moment pass in vain.
