The Virtue of Unwavering Persistence

Namo Amituofo teaches us that whether we are working as a collective or as individuals, we must persist in our efforts until our ultimate goal is achieved. This is especially true when we are here at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre. When the fourfold assembly gathers to work together, our shared efforts are dedicated to the benefit of all beings. When we dedicate our time and spirit to the work of saving the world and delivering beings from suffering, we are also saving ourselves, for we are among the beings we seek to help. We are the first to receive the benefits of our own compassionate actions.

Distinguishing Merit from

What is the nature of this benefit? When one acts without attachment or ego, the result is merit. When one acts with intention and attachment, the result is Blessings. If one's actions are a mixture of attachment and non-attachment, the results will be a blend of merit and Blessings, all governed by the laws of and cause and effect. Every action taken by the fourfold assembly at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre for the sake of others will return to the practitioner. Each person will experience the consequences of their actions through their own body, mind, and spirit, according to the seeds they have sown.

The True Wealth of the

If the result of our actions is good karma, it manifests as Blessings that will eventually fade. However, if the result is merit, it becomes what we call wealth—something that cannot be replaced by mere Blessings. This merit serves a higher purpose: it grows the Dharma Body, nurtures our wisdom, and helps to elevate the quality of one's spirit. The purpose of the fourfold assembly's practice is to save oneself and to save others. The most precious way to act is to do so without a self-centred mind. Therefore, keep moving forward with persistence and do not let your resolve waver.

The Foundation of Daily Practice

Do not forget the essential daily practices that sustain your spiritual life. These are the pillars of your growth: chanting the name of Namo Amituofo, performing prostrations, and reciting the Sutras. These practices are the source of your internal energy, and they are sustained by the Buddha's blessings. By integrating these into your life, you ensure that your practice remains grounded in the Truth. Namo Amituofo.
