This is a record of an interview with Wang Kuiju, who sought at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. She now resides in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects upon her transition from the hell realms to the Western Pure Land. Recorded by the chief writer, Fa Ning, on March 27, 2026.

Lay Practitioner Wang Kuiju speaks:

"Namo Amituofo. I, Wang Kuiju, am at a loss for words right now. My heart is overflowing with gratitude—gratitude to Namo Amituofo and to Practitioner Su. The immense kindness and virtue you have both shown me... I truly do not know how I could ever repay it.

A Few Hours in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss

The Western Land of Ultimate Bliss—I have only been here for a few short hours. Yet, in these few hours, my eyes have been opened to things I never could have imagined. I have witnessed events that I never thought possible. Of course, the most magnificent and precious thing is that today, I was able to be reborn in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss alongside my late husband, Mr. Li Wanguang.

Although everyone here takes on a masculine form—including myself, as women who arrive here are transformed into men—we no longer have our past relationships. We are all sons of the Buddha now. I am still aware of who I was, and I know I have a filial daughter-in-law, Zhao Yanyun, who performed the Chao Du for us. When I saw her name, I realised what a bright and resonant name it is. I never expected that she would have such a deep affinity with the Buddha, that she would be able to find the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, and that she would have the to believe so firmly. It is because of her that we were both given this chance to be reborn and transformed.

From the Depths of Hell to the Pure Land

To be honest, the life I lived in the hells was absolutely miserable. I spent so many years in that place that I had become completely unrecognisable. But ever since I arrived at the Western Land of Nature, my shattered and broken spirit was immediately saved. I received the white robes given to me by Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su. Once I put them on, my entire being was filled with such dignity; my energy and spirit returned. I am like a completely different person compared to the one who was suffering those punishments in hell.

I never expected such a stark contrast. It turns out that knowing the Buddha has such magnificent benefits. It is a great pity that there are so few people in the world as fortunate as we are. I certainly hope that the Buddha’s teachings can be spread far and wide throughout the world, and I hope that as a member of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, I can help to achieve this.

The Weight of Karmic Debt

My family members seem quite puzzled: how could a person like me, who lived a normal life, end up in the hells to suffer such punishments? I did not kill, I did not commit arson, and I did not do anything truly heinous. However, after I died, I stood before King Yama, and there, my Goodness and my evil were weighed. My merits could not cancel out my transgressions. And so, I was dragged away to suffer the consequences, because while I was alive, I had harboured some unwholesome thoughts.

Of course, most people in the world do not possess a mind that is purely good and pure. Because I harboured evil thoughts, I awakened many, many beings within my own . Among them were beings I had hurt deeply in the past—beings who were covered in blood and suffering immensely. I could see their pain so clearly here. They presented me with a mountain of complaints, accusing me of being selfish, saying I only thought of myself and never considered others. Just like that, my spirit was accused by these petitions and cast into the hells, where I endured ten thousand kinds of suffering.

A Final Message to My Family

Looking back at the few decades I spent in the human world, there is truly nothing left to regret. Everything is an illusion; it passes in a flash, and then it is all gone. I want to tell my family—my filial daughter-in-law and my son—to seize this opportunity to encounter the Buddha and to make the most of your lives. Otherwise, a human life is truly of no value; it would be such a waste. Being able to help more people understand the vastness of the Buddha’s teachings and to know that Namo Amituofo can help one transcend the cycle of birth and death is the most important thing. I hope you can all do your best to achieve this.

Well, I will stop here for today. I will leave the rest for everyone to slowly contemplate and realise for themselves.

Namo Amituofo."
