Relieving Suffering: Teachings from Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva
An Interview with Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva
Recorded on 12 April 2019
The Nectar of Liberation
The nectar of the waters sprinkles across the three thousand worlds, allowing suffering spirits to find liberation. If you ask where your true home lies, simply chant the name of Namo Amituofo and enter the of Ultimate Bliss. This is the path to returning to your original home.
All the suffering in this world stems from a heart that has no place to rest. We feel unsettled, anxious, fearful, and terrified of losing what we possess. However, if you practise and realise that the heart is empty and the true self is empty, you will understand that because nothing was ever truly yours to begin with, there is nothing to lose. When you grasp the present moment, with no past to regret and no future to fear, you will find true freedom.
The Illusion of Control
People often spend their lives planning and strategising, hoping that everything will proceed according to their own designs. They fear that if they lose control, the situation will become unmanageable and chaotic. This entire process is filled with deep-seated anxiety, which is why we use planning as a shield to prevent problems from arising. Yet, how many realise that this very act of planning is merely another link in the chain of ?
To break free from the cycle of karma, the method is to resolve matters as they arise, following the conditions of the moment. Once you have handled a task, you must let it go. Do not let your heart dwell on it; do not cling to the outcome. This is how you attain the ease and convenience of a liberated mind. Unfortunately, most people in this world cannot comprehend how to live in such a way, which is precisely why they find it so difficult to leave suffering behind.
The Path of , Concentration and Wisdom
The study of Precepts, Concentration and Wisdom constitutes the core curriculum for all practitioners of the Buddha’s teachings. Through this process of cultivation, one eventually attains the manifestation of Prajna wisdom. With this wisdom, many of the complex problems that once seemed insurmountable can be resolved with ease.
Finding your true self—by ceasing to overthink and ceasing to plan—is the most vital method for resolving the suffering and restlessness of this world. However, there is no one to teach this to the people of the world, and so they remain unaware of this path. Even if they do hear of it, they often find it impossible to practise. They fear failure and dare not attempt it. Consequently, the human living space becomes a tangled web, filled with all manner of chaotic information.
The Invisible Web of Interference
In this busy, bustling world, the more densely populated a place is, and the more advanced its communication technology, the more intense the interaction of information becomes. When you add the vibrations emitted by our constant planning and thinking, it forms a web of interference that is invisible to the physical eyes. This web covers people’s bodies, minds, and spirits, making it difficult to maintain a clear and bright mind. This is why the environment in which you practise is of such critical importance.
