Requesting the Buddha to Remain in the World
Teachings from Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju
From the 2019 Thrice Yearning Ceremony in Australia
The Great Guide of All Beings
The Buddha serves as the supreme guide for all living beings. Where the Buddha abides, the is present, and it is here that we find the means to leave suffering behind. This is the great gate to liberation and the true path to Buddhahood. The Buddha personally guides us to realise our awakened being. Even when the Buddha enters Nirvana, the Dharma remains in this world, relying upon the Sangha to spread the Dharma and pass on the heart of the Dharma to future generations.
The Heart of the True Teachings
The essence of every Buddha is one, and their hearts are perfectly in sync. The Truth is purified within the very movement of our hearts. Requesting the Buddha to remain in the world is a powerful and essential practice. By doing so, we ensure that the True Teachings are passed on forever, benefiting infinite beings across the vastness of the Dharma Realm. The vastness of the Dharma Realm is contained within my own heart; the Buddha-heart is my heart, and I am the Buddha.
The Infinite Reach of
Compassion and wisdom are boundless, pervading the great thousand worlds. They reach into the smallest corners of existence, entering even a single grain of sand or a speck of dust. The sky is filled with fresh flower offerings as we praise the Buddha’s compassion for remaining in this world. The Buddha’s grace reaches all:
- The hells and hungry ghosts
- The six realms of existence
- Celestial beings and the four holy sages
- The multitudes of the galaxy
All these beings receive the Buddha’s compassionate grace and manifest his majestic power, which enables them to enter the of Ultimate Bliss.
Transcending the Cycle of Suffering
The suffering of impermanence—birth, aging, sickness, and death—is finally resolved. The Buddha explains the state of no-birth and no-death, and he further explains the state of no-aging and no-sickness. Together, we enter the liberated ground of the Tathagata. This teaching was recorded by the Buddha's disciple, Venerable HaiZe.
