Selfless Devotion to All Sentient Beings
An Interview with Venerable Yongning
Recorded by Chief Writer Shi Fajing on March 8, 2023
Venerable Yongning, a dedicated practitioner, shares his profound insights into the compassionate work of Practitioner Su at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre. This interview, recorded on March 8, 2023, by Chief Writer Shi Fajing, highlights the tireless efforts of Practitioner Su in delivering sentient beings from the depths of the spiritual realms.
Venerable Yongning speaks:
"Namo Amituofo. I am Venerable Yongning. It is a profound honour to share my observations regarding the boundless of Practitioner Su and the tireless work performed at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre.
The Power of the
I have witnessed a tremendous, overwhelming force pulling vast multitudes of sentient beings from deep beneath the earth. This is not something that could be achieved by any human excavator or heavy machinery. Rather, it is Practitioner Su who utilises his Body, entering the subterranean depths with a gentle, compassionate presence. He carries the light of the Buddha into those dark places, guiding these countless beings out, lifting them into the Buddha-light, and allowing them to finally depart from those dark spaces to find liberation and leave suffering behind.
What I have just described is the essence of Practitioner Su's Dharma Body deliverance. Every single day, whenever Practitioner Su is not engaged in delivering Dharma talks, he dedicates his time to the deliverance of sentient beings. Even when the available time is extremely brief, he treasures it immensely. In Practitioner Su’s philosophy, one must live as if one day is two. If he has ten minutes, he accomplishes twenty minutes' worth of work; if he has an hour, he achieves two hours' worth. His drive and the speed at which he works are always at their peak—he is constantly 'wound up' like a spring, never allowing the slightest trace of laziness to take hold.
The Harmony of Speed and Stillness
It is precisely this intense vigour and strength that allows him to make one day function as two. Yet, this is not a frantic or chaotic rush. If one were merely hurried and wild, one would fail to achieve the goal. It is not like that at all. Instead, there is a profound meditative concentration within him. This concentration helps him accomplish the greatest amount of work in the shortest time, yet he remains calm, unhurried, and composed. He keeps the Buddha-name, Namo Amituofo, constantly in his heart, ensuring his mind remains undisturbed. This is a supreme level of practice.
What I have described is simply how Practitioner Su conducts himself daily. Outside of his Dharma talks, teaching sessions, and Dharma assemblies, he is entirely focused on using his time to deliver beings from various spiritual realms. To the entire spiritual world, Practitioner Su is a compassionate Great Buddha. When they see him, they are filled with reverence. The moment he appears, they offer him their deepest respect, often bowing or even kneeling before him. They do this because, without Practitioner Su’s Dharma Body deliverance, these beings would never have the opportunity to escape their confined spaces, let alone be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
Compassion for the Lost
With the help of Practitioner Su, even those evil spirits and demon crowds who have committed the most heinous sins in the past are given the opportunity to be rescued and liberated. That is the true measure of his compassion.
In the eyes of a Buddha, there is no such thing as a 'bad child,' and Practitioner Su views all sentient beings with this same perspective. Through his Buddha-eye, he sees that all beings are equal. Even among the demons who have committed countless evils, there remains a single seed of Goodness within their hearts. Because of this, Practitioner Su manifests a heart of great compassion, employing his Dharma Body to deliver immeasurable and boundless suffering spirits, helping them to find liberation and leave suffering behind.
The Path of True Repentance
Today, I, Yongning, witnessed the boundless multitudes of beings in the hells. These beings have all committed grave sins, which is why they fell into the hells to suffer. Are they truly so evil by nature? In truth, only after losing their human bodies do they begin to regret the sins they committed out of greed, anger, delusion, arrogance, and doubt—driven by the pursuit of wealth, lust, fame, food, and sleep. Only after leaving the human world do they clearly see their own ignorance, but by then, it is often too late. They wail and repent in the hells, unable to leave until their sentences are served, forced to endure the consequences of their actions incessantly.
Practitioner Su, in his infinite compassion, enters the hells through his Dharma Body. He brings with him the Buddha-light and the six-character name, 'Namo Amituofo.' All those hell-bound beings who truly repent follow him in chanting the Buddha-name, and through his rescue, they are liberated. This is compassion at its absolute peak.
Every time I witness such a scene, I feel an immense warmth and compassion. I am deeply grateful for Practitioner Su’s selfless dedication, as he sacrifices himself for the sake of all beings.
Namo Amituofo."
