Teachings from Namo Amituofo
Recorded by Venerable HaiZe on May 14, 2023

Life is but a single journey. In the context of spiritual practice, what does it truly mean to live an abundant life? Many perceive abundance through the lens of the material world, perhaps in having a table filled with exquisite delicacies or enjoying the comforts of a luxurious lifestyle. However, from the perspective of the Buddha, true abundance is far removed from these fleeting sensory pleasures.
Beyond Material Wealth
An abundant life is not defined by the variety of food before your eyes or the refinement of your meals. Whether one partakes in a grand feast or a humble bowl of porridge, the true essence of life resides in the intention behind one's actions. It is about taking the salvation of all beings as your personal responsibility. This mission demands a heart that is selfless and devoid of ego, moving forward with a direct and unwavering commitment to save those who suffer.
The Vow to Save All Beings
Do you possess the heart and the actions necessary to save all beings? This commitment must remain constant throughout your entire life. You must also include yourself in this mission, for you are also a being in need of liberation. True abundance is found in the success of your practice—in whether you have managed to save yourself from being reincarnated, and whether you have helped other beings escape the six realms of existence to be reborn in the of Ultimate Bliss.
The Strength of Unwavering Perseverance
The word abundance implies more than just quantity; it refers to the strength of your perseverance. It is measured by how much force you can exert to stay the course until the very end. You must maintain your original intention until you reach the state of an awakened being. An abundant life is one that has successfully overcome various difficulties and trials. Regardless of where you are or what circumstances you face, your dedication must remain firm:
- To uphold the Buddha’s teachingsTo cherish the Pure Land pathTo alleviate the suffering of all beingsTo keep the vow of leading all beings to the Western Pure Land forever unchanged
