The Profound Meaning of Opening

During the third session of the , we are invited to contemplate the true meaning of . To open the heart is to begin the process of liberation. When we speak of the heart opening, we are referring to the purification of our Six Roots: the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind. In our daily lives, we are often blinded by the illusions of this world. We allow our confusion to act as a barrier, obscuring the ultimate truth of our existence. However, if we can successfully open these Six Roots, the barriers within our hearts will dissolve, and every aspect of our lives will become clear.

Seeing Through the Illusions of the World

The world we inhabit is filled with illusory phenomena. We often mistake these fleeting shadows for reality, becoming trapped in the cycle of rebirth. To break free from this, we must cultivate a sharp and sensitive awareness that cuts through the darkness of confusion. By understanding the deeper meaning of the , we can guide ourselves and others back to the of Ultimate Bliss. This is the path of true wisdom.

The Practice of

To truly awaken, we must apply this practice to each of our senses:

  • The Eyes: When we open our eyes, we must not become lost in the illusory, polluted sights of this world. By seeing the truth, we no longer wander in confusion.
  • The Ears: When we open our ears, we hear the sorrowful cries of suffering beings. This should awaken our , driving us to help them leave suffering behind and find happiness.
  • The Nose: When we open our nose, we become aware of the scents of other realms of existence. We must be cautious and diligent, ensuring we do not fall back into the six realms of existence.
  • The Tongue: When we open our tongue, we realise that the sweet, sour, bitter, and spicy tastes of this world are merely worldly distractions. The true, pure taste is found in the simple, nourishing essence of the Dharma.
  • : When we open our body, we understand that this physical form is temporary. We must be willing to let go of our attachment to it, using this false human body as a vessel to seek our true nature.
  • The Mind: When we open our mind, we must stop clinging to the idea of possession. By letting go of everything we think we own, we attain great, boundless freedom.

Returning to the True Nature

When the heart finally opens, we rediscover our pure . We realise that all the struggles and attachments we once held so tightly were merely part of a dream. Now that we have awakened, we see the dream for what it is and return to the clarity of our original nature. This message was recorded by the Buddha's disciple, Venerable HaiZe, who serves as the chief writer.
