The Buddha-name Floating Up
Teachings from Namo Amituofo
Recorded by Chief Writer Venerable HaiZe on May 7, 2021
The Fleeting Nature of Time
During the , as we invite spirits and perform the noon offering, Namo Amituofo provides these essential teachings. We are reminded that time is a constant, relentless flow. The second that has just passed is already history, while the next second is already rushing forward to become the present. Every single second, every fleeting instant, and every infinitesimal moment is a fresh beginning. It is a new opportunity to align your heart with the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way.
The Vigilance of the Heart
My children, are you able to capture and truly perceive the changes occurring in every second, every instant, and every moment? If you can develop this keen awareness, you will be able to act in time to block the influx of negative mental states. You must learn to identify and halt the non-virtuous thoughts, the desire-driven cravings, the evil intentions, and the obstructive mental patterns that deviate from the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way. By blocking these, you allow pure, virtuous, and unobstructed thoughts to arise in their place.
The Pure Resonance of the Buddha-name
If you can maintain a state of pure goodness in every thought, you will be able to hold the Buddha-name without interruption. The Buddha-name itself is pure and perfectly good. By holding it firmly in your heart, you create a barrier that prevents non-virtuous and desire-driven thoughts from even taking root. When the Buddha-name is held with sincerity, these negative thoughts cannot arise, and you remain steadfast in the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way.
The Manifestation of Inner Clarity
However, if you have not yet cut off these non-virtuous and desire-driven thoughts, you remain far from the Buddha-name. You will find it difficult to receive the various benefits of the that come from truly holding the name. If you find that your mind is still clouded by such thoughts, you must summon the firm determination to cut them off. Only when you have cleared the clutter of the mind will you have the opportunity to let the Buddha-name float up and manifest clearly within your heart. All of you must remember this and put it into practice diligently.
