The Burden of Legacy and the Path to Awakening
An Interview with the Spirit of Chang Yung-fa, Founder of Evergreen Group
Recorded on August 8, 2018
This is a record of an interview with the spirit of Chang Yung-fa, who sought deliverance at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. He now resides in the . This account reflects upon his life and his observations from the spiritual realm. Recorded by the chief writer, Venerable HaiZe, on August 8, 2018.
Chang Yung-fa speaks:
"Namo Amituofo. If you are able to pick something up, you must also be able to put it down. To be a person of substance, one must possess this kind of boldness and courage; otherwise, you will be constantly dragged down by indecision and end up achieving nothing. In the study of the Buddha’s teachings, one must also possess this kind of strength. However, it cannot be applied through brute force. You must use a gentle, straightforward, and sincere approach—a skill that is firm yet yielding—to truly act like a practitioner. These are things I have learned from listening to Practitioner Su’s talks, combined with the experiences of my own life. I wonder if this is the right way? It certainly seems to make sense."
The Frustration of Worldly Obstacles
"Recently, following the issues regarding the venue rental at the Chang Yung-fa International Convention Centre, I felt as though I had suffered a crushing defeat! It forced me to reflect deeply: why is it that even when I have entered my own territory, I find myself unable to move even an inch? I am truly disappointed with the human world. It is no exaggeration to call this the 'Five Turbidities and Evil World.'
When you have the opportunity to do good deeds while you are alive, you must do as much as you possibly can. Do not wait until you have passed away and no longer possess a physical body, expecting your family to do things for you. Not only will they likely fail to do so, but you might even end up being rebuffed—it is a very cold and realistic world! Now, I must cherish my days in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss even more, diligently learning how to become a Buddha and truly act as one. Only when I have attained the necessary skills and 'attainment' will I return to the human world to save these stubborn and difficult-to-subdue beings. I am not ready yet; I cannot even resolve this recent matter, let alone speak of saving sentient beings."
The Admirable of Practitioner Su
"I truly admire Practitioner Su! Having been through a hundred battles, no matter what happens, he continues to move forward. This requires an immense mind-capacity, compassion, and the state of '' to achieve! Practitioner Su is truly a magnificent disciple of the Buddha; I admire him from the bottom of my heart. With such boldness and mind-capacity, if he were in the human world, he would undoubtedly be a great entrepreneur. Although saying it this way might sound a bit worldly, these are the heartfelt words of Chang Yung-fa."
A Message to the Living
"If Koo Chung-ming could have found his teacher, Practitioner Su, earlier and met him in person, he certainly could have avoided a great deal of suffering. Many of the hardships in the human world arise because people cannot think things through, have no one to teach them, and mistakenly believe their own thoughts are correct. Those who are lucky might 'safely reach base,' but those who are unlucky end up covered in scars and wounds.
If one can receive the guidance of a teacher to clear away the confusion, it will not only save oneself and prevent this lifetime from being wasted in the illusions of money, fame, and profit, but it will also allow one to emerge from the hells. It brings peace to the heart and allows one to join the teacher in saving beings, paving the way for one's future lives—paving the path to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
Chang Yung-fa hopes that Koo Chung-ming, while still in this world, will take the opportunity to do what I could not. Find Practitioner Su quickly; do not let your life pass by in vain, only to be filled with regret later. Namo Amituofo."
