The Call to True Faith and Practice

The Second Letter of Lay Practitioner Huang Nianzu

Teachings for Lay Practitioner Xia Fasheng of the Beijing Pure Land Association

Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre2 min read0 views

On the fifteenth of June, 2017.

Lay Practitioner Xia Fasheng,

Namo Amituofo. It is through the most subtle and profound Causal Conditions that we have come to meet and know one another. We are both practitioners who chant Namo Amituofo, both dedicated to the path, and both sincere disciples of the Buddha. Yet, one must ask: where do the differences between us truly lie? Why is it that, despite our shared path, our final destinations may differ so greatly? Can you, Fasheng, truly understand the essence of what I am speaking of today?

The Profound Nature of Causal Conditions

I, Huang Nianzu, reside in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. Most people in our community acknowledge this fact and accept it as truth. However, today, when I, Huang Nianzu, transmit a message down from the Western Pure Land, the number of people who truly believe in this message diminishes significantly. Furthermore, if one were to state that these messages are transmitted through the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, and that they originate from the Western Pure Land, how many would remain who still hold onto their faith? This is the nature of the human mind.

The Fragility of Human Faith

True practice is intended to help us transcend this very human nature. To study the Buddha-nature is to cultivate a mind that is free from all discriminations and free from any form of doubt. This is the essence of true practice. Regardless of how you, Fasheng, or any of the others may view this message arriving from the Western Pure Land, it does not matter to me. I, Huang Nianzu, know that what I am doing now is the true Great . It is a virtuous and righteous undertaking. Therefore, I do not require the validation or approval of others.

Transcending the Limitations of

I have endeavoured to express my words with absolute sincerity and clarity. Fasheng, whether you choose to believe or not is a matter that rests entirely within your own heart. How long have you been walking this path of practice? I, Huang Nianzu, am searching for you now. Do I still possess the ability to invite you to seek me out once more? Namo Amituofo. The situation is grave and the stakes are high. I ask that you treat this matter with the utmost seriousness and caution.

A Solemn Call to

Lay Practitioner Huang Nianzu, written in his own hand. This record of the visit was written by the Buddha's disciple, Shi Faxi.
