Teachings from Namo Amituofo, recorded by the chief writer, Venerable HaiZe.

Namo Amituofo asks: My children, do you treat all beings with true ? This compassion must also include yourself, for you are also one of these beings.

The Boundless Scope of Compassion

When we speak of beings, we often think only of those who cause us difficulty. However, the scope of compassion is far wider than our limited suggest. We must extend our care to all:

  • : Those who have come to seek balance for past harms.
  • Attached spirits: Beings who have attached themselves to our energy fields.
  • Demon crowds: Those who exist in states of intense affliction.
  • Sentient beings in the realm: All living entities across the universe.
  • The physical world—wishing to be as free as the wind, mountains & rivers: The very environment that sustains us.
  • Nature: Flowers, trees, and every single speck of dust.
  • The fundamental elements: Every molecule of water and every particle of air.
  • The objects of daily life: The tables, chairs, plates, bowls, and chopsticks we use every day.

Whether a being possesses emotion or is considered insentient, they are all beings. In such a vast context, how can you, as a practitioner, ensure that you are treating all beings with genuine compassion?

Practice as a Compassionate Act

Fiercely diligent practice is one of the most effective methods to cultivate this compassion. When you engage in diligent practice, the beings within your body and those in your surrounding environment also receive the benefits of the Dharma. When you are focused on your prostrations, chanting Namo Amituofo, or reciting the Sutras, your mind becomes quiet and steady. In this state, you are free from:

  • Delusions: False perceptions that cloud your true nature.
  • Messy thoughts: The chaotic mental chatter that distracts from the path.
  • Afflictions: The emotional disturbances that prevent clarity.

This state of purification is powerful. It allows the hearts of your karmic creditors—who may have come to seek revenge or balance—to also become calm and peaceful. If your heart is pure, good, and focused during your practice, you will achieve this effect. Furthermore, the power of the merit generated during your dedications can be received by these beings, which is a profound way to show compassion.

Pure Service and the Path to

True compassion is also found in how you serve others. When you serve the community with a sincere heart, without any desire for reward or recognition, you are performing an act of pure Goodness. When beings witness this, they do not feel resentment or affliction. This, too, is treating all beings with compassion.

If you wish to realise your true nature, you must work to reduce disasters and remove obstacles. You must minimise the interference that beings have upon you. You must walk the path straight ahead, working to remove defilements and attain purity until no stains remain. When your Body-Mind-Spirit is entirely purified—when you are perfectly pure, perfectly good, and free from all defilement—that is the moment of Awakening.

The Radiance of the Awakened Being

At the moment of Awakening, your entire being will open, and you will radiate a golden light of pure Goodness. At this time, not only will the beings in the surrounding Dharma realm be illuminated by this light, but they will also be cleansed of their dust and defilements. For those beings connected by karmic affinity at Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre—including your karmic creditors, attached spirits, and demon crowds—they will be able to enter this light and receive the benefit of . This is the ultimate way to treat all beings with compassion. Namo Amituofo.
