The Demon's Discovery at Hsiang Kuang

This is a record of an interview with Mo Lian Yu, a demon associated with the global pandemic, who encountered the power of Namo Amituofo at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia. This account reflects his perspective on the pandemic and his unexpected discovery of the Centre's spiritual potency. Recorded by the chief writer, Venerable HaiZe, on August 4, 2021.

Mo Lian Yu speaks:

"Namo Amituofo. My name is Mo Lian Yu, and I hail from the global Pandemic Control Centre. Recently, news has been spreading like wildfire across every corner of the globe: it is said that at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia, Namo Amituofo is personally stepping forward to save humanity from this pandemic. I had heard whispers of this before, of course, but I never gave it a second thought. How could anyone possibly have the power to invite Namo Amituofo to intervene? It seemed utterly impossible. So, the days just rolled on, one after another.

In our line of work, we do not bother counting the days. The Pandemic Control Centre is perpetually swamped with reports from every corner of the earth. Every country, every region, is sending back updates, and honestly, we are stretched so thin that it feels like we do not have enough hands on deck. I was just in the middle of preparing to dispatch more reinforcements when this peculiar news reached me. In the midst of my frantic schedule, I decided I had to come and see for myself. I wanted to take a look and find out: what kind of divine being is actually behind this?"

The Arrogance of a Demon King

"The demon kings we train and deploy from our control centre are of a certain calibre. We do not deal in rumours or trivialities; to report anything less than substantial information would be a waste of our precious demonic energy. Every resource we have is currently poured into the pandemic, so the intelligence sent back by our regional demon kings must be credible and verifiable. Since I received reports not just from one, but from many of them, I felt compelled to investigate this place personally.

I never imagined that the moment I stepped through the gates of this temple, the moment I passed the threshold guarded by the Dharma protectors, I would be caught. I saw a brilliant mass of golden light ahead, and I thought to myself, 'This must be the source of all this commotion.' I moved closer to investigate, and before I knew it, I was discovered! It was a massive blow to my pride as Mo Lian Yu. I was far too careless. Had I been more cautious, I would have used my invisibility arts, and they never would have caught me. Now, I have even implicated the one hundred and twenty-five million, two hundred thousand demon children and grandchildren I brought with me. These are not minor players, mind you! To think I would fall into such a trap—I truly underestimated this place."

A Realisation of Power

"I summoned them and left in such a hurry that I did not even leave proper instructions. Now, here I am, completely immobilised. My mind is racing, trying to calculate the situation. Looking at the level of skill displayed here, this might actually be real! If this truly comes to pass, then our pandemic project is finished. We have spent over a year meticulously orchestrating this—it is a massive collaboration and a great achievement for the Demon Realm. None of us were ready to call it quits, but now, we have no choice but to be on our guard.

That Dharma protector I saw earlier looked so imposing and powerful. Could it be the renowned Sangharama Bodhisattva or Skanda Bodhisattva? If so, one must truly show them a measure of reverence. Is this place truly a Buddha-land? We in the Demon Realm do hold a certain respect for genuine practitioners of the Buddha’s teachings, but it has been a very long time since I have encountered a practitioner who could command true respect from the depths of my heart."

The Laws of Karma and Human Suffering

"I am currently weighing my options, wondering what to do next. I am stuck here, unable to move. What kind of place is this that can lock down a demon king like me? The pandemic has been progressing quite smoothly so far. At the very least, humanity has no real solution for us. They have cobbled together vaccines, thinking that will make us retreat, but they are far too early to celebrate. The human heart has not changed. They do not know how to repent, they refuse to admit their faults, and they do not believe in the laws of karma and cause and effect. They only know how to complain. With such arrogant hearts, refusing to bow or submit, how could the pandemic possibly be eliminated?

There are still plenty of people who deserve to die who are still alive! There are those who need to be taught a lesson through illness who have not yet fallen ill. It is not time for us to stop yet! How else will these people balance the scales against the evil deeds they have committed? You have heard of the law of conservation of energy, have you not? Once an evil deed is committed, that dark energy exists within the space of the body. It will not vanish until the karmic retribution is served. Even if they do not die, that dark energy remains! It will simply transform into another form. Those who are meant to die will die; those who are meant to fall ill will fall ill. This is not something we demons can control; we do not have the power to make that dark energy vanish into thin air. Even if Namo Amituofo has come to save the world from this pandemic, I am very curious to see what method he uses to make that dark energy disappear.

In my fifteen thousand years of experience in the Demon Realm, I have seen that unless people can be humble and modest, and sincerely repent before the Buddha, the weight of their past evil deeds might be lessened, but it will not change the fundamental outcome. But never mind, I do not want to think about that anymore! I will simply bring this to a close."

A Warning to the Demon Realm

"It seems that this Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre is truly not a simple place. If the Namo Amituofo here can indeed save the world from this pandemic, then there is a significant degree of credibility to it. I must call upon all our demon children and grandchildren to heighten their defences! This place should be listed as a restricted zone; do not enter lightly if you have no business here. Very well, that is all."
