The Essence of Deliverance and the Dharma Lineage
An Interview with Venerable Yongning
Recorded on May 27, 2019, at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre
This interview was recorded on May 27, 2019, at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. Venerable Yongning shares profound insights into the nature of , the selfless dedication of Practitioner Su, and the critical importance of preserving the lineage for the salvation of all sentient beings. The session was documented by the chief writer, Shi Faxin.
Venerable Yongning speaks:
"Namo Amituofo. To perform Chao Du, one must possess the power of sincerity, the power of truth, the power of transformation, and the power of . The deliverance led by Practitioner Su is never a matter of calculation or hesitation; he simply goes wherever the need is greatest. He moves with total freedom between the spiritual realms and the vast Dharma realm of emptiness. He has long since transcended the need for personal thought or desire, using his human body to its fullest potential, enduring the suffering of all beings with an iron-willed perseverance.
Every time a new member of the fourfold assembly arrives at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, Practitioner Su’s only hope is to save one more Buddha-to-be. He deeply wishes for everyone to cultivate the heart of deliverance. Before they arrive, how many beings are filled with resentment and unwillingness, seeking out Practitioner Su to demand justice? Even when his own physical body feels the strain, Practitioner Su chooses to bear the burden, always maintaining a smile on his face. With that compassionate smile and a natural affinity for others, he considers their needs and works tirelessly to deliver sentient beings.
The Equality of Suffering and the Root of Illness
In the human world, illness is what people fear most. A body wracked by sickness brings endless suffering. Many people only realise that they have wasted their time when they fall ill; only then do they learn to cherish their lives and understand the importance of doing something truly meaningful. While society may have its hierarchies and humanity may have its divisions, illness and death are the great equalisers across the six realms of existence and the ten directions. Even those who have temporarily escaped the cycle of rebirth in the heavenly realms will eventually face the time of their descent.
The accumulated throughout countless lives will eventually find you. Because there has been no deliverance, beings from life after life are still waiting. The roots of these illnesses often stem from the weaknesses within the human body—our rigid habits, our self-centredness, our various of evil, or the deep-seated dissatisfaction and intolerance we hold in our hearts. These are things that can happen every single day. Through daily accumulation and the constant renewal of our cells, these factors can cause beings to gather, manifesting as the cancers and tumours diagnosed today. In truth, the source of all misfortune comes from our own hearts. The heart is the driver of all the cells in .
The Path to Liberation
When one truly awakens the heart and establishes the Bodhi vow, the seeds of enlightenment—which have struggled so hard to sprout in this lifetime—must be firmly grasped. When you encounter the great Buddha’s teachings in this life, you must have absolute confidence in your ability to transcend. At the moment you meet a virtuous teacher like Practitioner Su, the shortcut to rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss becomes even more accessible. For those seeking rebirth, Practitioner Su can directly guide their spirits to the Western Land. This is the he has realised through thirty years of practice; it is only because he has mastered the ability to come and go from the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss at will that he can accomplish such a feat.
In the process of mediating with , it is his compassion that truly allows them to let go of their hatred. They leave the bodies of their debtors and become willing to go to the Dharma-Nature Land to listen to the sutras or seek rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. Practitioner Su is unique in the universe in his ability to perform this deliverance. He is the only one leading the people of this world to break through delusion and attain enlightenment, helping them find their own Dharma Body.
Preserving the Dharma Lineage
Practitioner Su is actively cultivating talent and opening up the space for the fourfold assembly to develop the innate abilities that everyone possesses. By doing so, he unfolds the lineage of the Buddha’s teachings. This Dharma lineage must not be broken, and the spirit of the teachings must not die. It is my sincere hope that the Buddha’s teachings can spread and flourish throughout the universe, and that every person may find their way back to their original nature. Namo Amituofo."
