The serves as a profound opportunity for us to connect with the . During the noon offering, Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju shared these essential teachings on the nature of eternity.

The Restless Heart

Where can we find that which is eternal? It is not to be found in the external world, for the world is constantly shifting. It resides within the heart of every being. People in this world constantly chase after eternity, yet they fail to realise that this pursuit stems from a heart that is fundamentally restless. They feel a desperate need for something permanent to anchor their wandering spirits, hoping that by finding it, they might finally find peace.

The Cycle of Hope and Despair

Our worldly pursuits are driven by our desires and our vows. We place our hopes in these external goals, believing they will bring us lasting satisfaction. However, consider the nature of these hopes:

  • When a hope is realised, we feel a fleeting sense of .
  • When a hope fails to manifest, we are crushed by sorrow and despair.

This cycle of hope and disappointment is the trap of the human world. It is a roller coaster of emotions that prevents us from finding true stability.

Turning Inward to the Unchanging

True eternity must be sought within. It is found by looking deep into the heart, where there is stillness and immutability. In this state of true meditative concentration, there is no realisation of hope, nor is there the destruction of it. It simply is. It remains forever as it is, untouched by the fluctuations of the external world.

Facing the Reality of Impermanence

The human world is a realm of impermanence. There is no eternity to be found here. Instead, we find constant change, a ceaseless flow that never rests. This is the true reality of our existence. By seeing this truth clearly, you will no longer be prone to disappointment or led astray by wrong paths. You will understand that the world is a place of transition, not a final destination.

The Path to

You must seize your limited life and time. Engage in diligent practice. Look inward to rediscover your true self. When you reach a state of clarity regarding both the principles of the universe and the practical affairs of life, you will see everything with perfect vision. Always remain clear and focused. Maintain a right heart, right thought, and right action, never deviating from the path. May you dwell in stillness, pure in your intent, and be filled with joy.
