A Beacon of Ancient Wisdom

Nalanda University was once the most magnificent Buddhist monastic university in ancient India. It served as a sacred cradle of learning, educating and nurturing many renowned patriarchs and venerable masters, and profound scholars of the Buddhist tradition. Among these figures, the Great Master Xuanzang of the Tang Dynasty in China stands as a towering example of devotion. He braved immense dangers and risked his life to travel to the Western Regions, seeking scriptures in the Western Regions, and arrived at Nalanda University to seek the with a sincere and unwavering heart.

The Preservation of the Dharma

The journey undertaken by the Great Master Xuanzang was instrumental in the continuation of the Buddha’s teachings in China. By bringing back the precious scriptures, he successfully compensated for the gaps and addressed the deficiencies in the Chinese collection of the —the Sutras, the Vinaya, and the Shastras. He returned to China carrying many invaluable Dharma Jewel, including sacred texts and statues. Because of his tireless efforts, he is remembered as one of the most significant figures in the history of Chinese Buddhism, having enriched the tradition with profound depth and clarity.

The Lingering Echoes of the Past

Although Nalanda University has transitioned from a vibrant centre of Buddhist education into an archaeological site over the past millennium, it remains a place of pilgrimage for those who wish to pay their respects. While the bustling activity of the past has faded, the contributions made to the Buddha’s teachings during that era are far-reaching and truly immeasurable. Yet, even though a thousand years have passed, many spirits still linger within that space. They remain trapped in their past attachments, unaware that the world has moved on:

  • Some continue to study the sutras, the Vinaya, and the Shastras as they did in life.
  • Some remain in the air, absorbed in deep meditative concentration.
  • Some are still engaged in teaching, unaware that they are now spirits without a body.

The Compassionate Path to Liberation

Fortunately, through the compassionate power of Practitioner Su’s , the space of Nalanda University has been opened. This allows these spirits, who possess high spiritual potential, the opportunity to finally depart from that confined space. Through the process of , they are given the chance to hear the Buddha’s name, chant Namo Amituofo, and attain rebirth in the of Ultimate Bliss, or at the very least, enter the human and heavenly realms of Goodness.

The Ongoing Work of Deliverance

The universe is vast, and there are countless other spaces where many sentient beings remain trapped, just as those at Nalanda were. At the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, we continue this vital work of deliverance through the . We remain dedicated to saving infinite suffering beings, ensuring that the light of the Dharma continues to shine for all who are lost in the cycle of rebirth. Namo Amituofo.
