The Fifth Letter of Li Muyuan from the Western Pure Land
The Fifth Letter of Lay Practitioner Li Muyuan
A Call for Harmony and True Practice
August 12, 2017
To all the devotees and protectors of the Buddhist Lodge, I am Li Muyuan. I implore you to read every word of this letter with a sincere and open heart. The contents of this message are meant to be shared openly, and I encourage you to visit the website of the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre to gain a deeper understanding. The group of dedicated practitioners at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia are true cultivators of the Way. Everything they do is for the benefit of all beings, including the vital work of performing to lead the spirits of the deceased to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. In this world, this is the only place where Namo Amituofo truly abides and provides a direct path to the West. This is a truth that should not be doubted. Even I, Li Muyuan, was guided to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss by Practitioner Su.
The Gate of No Sickness and No Death
Practitioner Su has introduced the method of chanting Namo Amituofo for rebirth in the Western Pure Land with absolute clarity. It is the gate of no sickness and no death. When she gives Dharma talks, she speaks directly to the heart about the essentials of practice. True is the act of saving the wisdom-life of every individual. It also involves allowing the residing within our bodies to hear the Buddha’s teachings. When they are moved by the Dharma and are willing to resolve their grievances, we are no longer tormented by the suffering of illness.
Everything I did during my lifetime was for the sake of every person at the Buddhist Lodge who chants the name of Namo Amituofo. My deepest hope is that, at the final moment of your lives, you will be received by Namo Amituofo and led to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. It was because I made this vow that I received such immense and the compassionate assistance of Practitioner Su. Without her help, how could I, burdened by so many illnesses, have reached the Western Pure Land? In truth, I was already suffering the consequences of my past actions. I ask every fellow practitioner at the Buddhist Lodge to stop dwelling on thoughts of me. Since my passing, there has been too much unnecessary disturbance. In reality, the essence of the Buddha’s teachings, as Practitioner Su often mentions in her Dharma talks, is to embody the spirit of learning from the Buddha:
- Unconditional Compassion: To offer kindness to those with whom we have no karmic affinity.
- Great Compassion: To treat all beings as one with ourselves, sharing in their suffering.
- True Compassion: To understand that learning the Buddha’s teachings is not about superstition or superficial forms, but about a genuine transformation from within and a purification of one's original nature.
A Call for Unity and Harmony
In the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, there is truly no affliction. There is no need for worry, for everything is abundant and manifests according to one's heart. When I wish to see the Buddhist Lodge, it appears right before my eyes. I see that every Dharma-protecting at the Lodge still misses me. However, the internal chaos that has plagued the Buddhist Lodge over the past two years, the dissatisfaction with leadership, and the tendency to compare one another—these are all things that must be improved.
The resignation of President Leong was primarily due to the handling of major affairs at the Buddhist Lodge. The more the truth of these matters is revealed, the more conflict it creates, including issues regarding finances, personnel, and the incident concerning the sarira relics that were said to have been found after my passing. My spirit was guided to the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre by Practitioner Su. I had previously appealed to everyone that I had not yet passed away, yet it was claimed that sarira were found. This incident caused further turmoil in the hearts of many and led to doubts about the Buddha’s teachings. I advise everyone to remember the laws of and cause and effect while you are still in this world. If you plant good causes, you will reap good fruits; if you plant evil causes, you will reap evil consequences. If you are rigorous in upholding the in your practice, you will be protected by the Dharma-protecting dragons and gods.
The Path Forward
The existence of the Buddhist Lodge symbolizes the hope for the Pure Land Dharma Gate in Singapore. An atmosphere of harmony within the Lodge is of the utmost importance. It is difficult to shake deeply held personal views, so it is normal to encounter tests during the process of practice. The newly appointed Lodge President, Chen Lifa, is known by all to be my best friend. His personality is relatively gentle, and he should be of great help to the Buddhist Lodge. I ask that you all support him. I am grateful to A-Fa for the silent support he always gave me whenever I needed it most. My second daughter, Li Jingjing, has a straightforward personality, and I hope she can assist in reorganising the current state of the Buddhist Lodge. I hope A-Fa will take the time to bring my daughter Jingjing to Australia to visit Practitioner Su. She truly has great attainment; her ability to perform Chao Du for the deceased is remarkable, and her mind-capacity is vast and compassionate.
It was here that I was saved by Practitioner Su and led to the Western Pure Land. You must come to find me if you wish to truly restore the former prosperity of the Buddhist Lodge. The Buddha’s teachings require a clear, pure stream. Only here, at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia, can one realise that learning the Buddha’s teachings is not about superstition or idol worship. It is about genuine self-cultivation and the transformation of one's habits. When we treat people and handle affairs, we must view everyone as equal, without high or low, and without discrimination. If you can live according to the Six Harmonies, your daily life becomes your practice, and your practice becomes your life. Every moment is the Buddha’s teaching. To every Dharma-protecting lay practitioner at the Buddhist Lodge, know that Li Muyuan has not died; I am truly in the Western Pure Land. I sincerely invite those who have a karmic affinity with me, as well as the Venerables and lay practitioners who care for me, to come and find me. Practitioner Su will introduce you to what the true Buddha’s teachings are. You do not need to die to chant the Buddha’s name; chanting Namo Amituofo truly does not require death. It is the method of chanting for no sickness and no death.
