The Call of the Buddha-Name

Sentient beings are scattered throughout the vastness of the universe; where is their true home? They wander through the cycle of rebirth, searching for a place of rest. Yet, when one hears the sacred Buddha-name, 'Namo Amituofo,' a transformation begins. If the heart remains silent and the Buddha-name is not heard, the spirit remains adrift. However, once the Buddha-name is truly heard and received into the heart, one is granted the possibility of salvation.

Though the may seem distant, like a horizon far beyond our reach, the moment the Buddha-name resonates within your heart, a golden thread of light connects you directly to Namo Amituofo. This is not a dream or a fleeting illusion. When the Buddha arrives before your eyes, His golden light shines into the darkest corners of the underworld, illuminating the shadows. Every being, regardless of their past, has a moment when they can be saved.

The Meaning of Affinity

In the human world, we often perceive time as fast or slow, measuring our progress by the passing of days and years. Yet, once you are saved and enter the Western Pure Land, these concepts of time dissolve. There is no speed or delay; there is only the eternal present. There is no suffering, only the boundless of the Western Pure Land. You must learn to make good use of this 'Pure Land of the Mind' while you are still in this world.

The fourfold assembly of disciples has come from all corners of the earth, from the furthest reaches of the horizon, to gather here at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. This gathering is not a coincidence; it is the result of a golden thread of Buddhist affinity woven by Namo Amituofo. Over countless aeons, you have each formed deep connections with Namo Amituofo, Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju, and Practitioner Su. These karmic threads have pulled you together at this specific time and place, at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, to work in harmony for the sake of becoming an awakened being, to save the world, and to save beings.

A Sacred Responsibility

This opportunity is rare and precious, something that is difficult to encounter in a thousand lifetimes. You must cherish this moment and hold onto it with all your heart. You are called to be active and persistent in your practice. You must strive to become an awakened being and attain Buddhahood; work alongside the Buddha to save the world and guide beings to rebirth in the Western Pure Land; and accept the responsibility of carrying forward the Pure Land teachings for the benefit of all. Namo Amituofo.
