The Green Tree Frog's Journey Home
An Interview with the Spirit of Hasting, the 'Sunshine Boy'
Recorded on April 12, 2020, at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre

This interview was recorded on April 12, 2020, at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre. The spirit of a young boy named Hasting, who had been trapped in the form of a green tree frog, sought deliverance from Practitioner Su. He now resides in the light of the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
Hasting speaks:
"Wow! Yahoo! Practitioner Su has finally seen me! I have been waiting for this day for so long! Practitioner Su is the one I admire most. He is truly incredible! His body radiates light, and he possesses the miraculous ability to fly high into the sky. He has those two large, flowing sleeves; with just a gentle wave, he delivers so many spirits. Of course, many of my predecessors have already come here to meet Practitioner Su, and they all received the ultimate reward: the chance to go to a world of brilliant light. We have been lining up, taking turns to report here. Our home is over by the pond, and we hop, hop, hop all the way here. Some of the older frogs simply did not have the strength to make the long journey to pay their respects to Practitioner Su, so they had to give up their chance and let us come to deliver the message instead."
A Debt of Gratitude for Life
"Practitioner Su is also our benefactor. If he had not returned and seen that our pond had dried up, and then prayed for rain, we would not be here today. Given the severe water shortage we faced, it would have been impossible for such weak, small lives as ours to survive, let alone grow up. That is why we came here—to personally say thank you to Practitioner Su!"
The Life of 'Sunshine Boy'
"My name is 'Sunshine Boy,' or Hasting. I was a very energetic young man. I especially loved the feeling of coming home after a basketball game, drenched in sweat, and then taking a hot shower—it was such a vibrant, powerful feeling! I loved that sense of vitality more than anything. But as fate would have it, my life was cut short. When I was twelve years old, on my way home from school, I was walking and talking at the same time. I did not even see the car coming towards me. It was as if I had no eyes; the vehicle came charging straight at me. I did not have a second to dodge, and it hit me head-on. I collapsed to the ground.
In that final moment as I fell, I thought about a school assignment I had been working on—one I really enjoyed—which was observing the ecology of green tree frogs. Green tree frogs were frequent visitors to the pond at my home. They did not like to make much noise, but they loved to stare right at you with their large, round eyes. As I thought about them, I suddenly felt my soul being pulled into a different space. I felt my body arching, and my legs became powerful, jumping and leaping. From that moment on, I became a green tree frog. I truly became a frog!"
A Plea for Restoration
"Now, we have heard that Practitioner Su can help us recover our original human forms. We are all so full of hope, and that is why everyone is scrambling to come and see him. Could you please ask Practitioner Su to help me return to my former self—to be 'Sunshine Boy' once again?"
Venerable HaiZe: "He will. Practitioner Su will help you recover your original form. I will help you write a memorial tablet. When Practitioner Su sounds the large qing, remember to enter into the sound of the chime, and you will be able to enter the world of light."
This interview message was recorded by the chief writer, Venerable HaiZe. Namo Amituofo.
