Teachings from Namo Amituofo, recorded and transcribed by Namo Amituofo’s disciple, Venerable HaiZe.

The Emptiness of Mere Knowledge

If you possess knowledge but fail to put it into practice, your understanding remains incomplete. It is often nothing more than empty words and idle conversation. Knowledge without action serves no purpose in your spiritual journey. You must rise and act, allowing your knowledge to manifest its true power in your daily life.

In this world, knowledge is often fleeting. It is like the shifting sands, constantly being covered or replaced by new information as time passes. There is nothing in the mundane world that remains permanently unchanged. However, the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way are fundamentally different. They represent the authentic reality that governs all existence. It is something that all beings must not only know but also follow with their entire heart.

Aligning with the Eternal Path

If you do not follow the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way, you deviate from the right path. This leads to several consequences:

  • A distorted view of reality that clouds your judgement.
  • The adoption of wrong or harmful paths that lead away from peace.
  • A state of confusion that requires immediate correction.

To find your way back, you must be willing to let go of the past knowledge that no longer serves your spiritual growth. You must turn your heart around and be willing to engage in actual, diligent practice. Only then can you receive the true benefits of the .

The Compassionate Path of Practice

Your knowledge and your actions must always be directed toward benefiting all beings. Your practice should help others to understand the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way, to recognise the reality of their situation, and to awaken from their current state of suffering. You must be mindful of the following:

  • Do not create negative causes that will lead to future suffering.
  • Observe the conditions and affinities you share with others.
  • When the opportunity arises, counsel beings to recognise that all suffering is rooted in impermanence.
  • Help them to realise their own true self, which has always been present within them.

If you can enter into this path of practice, you will find your way back to your original nature. To realise one's true nature and attain Buddhahood is the only authentic method to save all beings, helping them to achieve the state of leaving suffering and gaining happiness.

The Magnificent Vow of the Western Land

The very construction of the of Ultimate Bliss was founded upon this compassionate heart and vow. Through the Forty-eight Great Vows, Namo Amituofo leads the vast, boundless beings of the ten directions into the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. Once you enter this One-Vehicle realm, you have arrived at the place where Buddhahood is attained. It is a place where one can achieve Buddhahood within a single lifetime.

The Pure Land is a magnificent, supreme path. I hope that all who have made the vow to reach this land will engage in diligent practice to complete the Buddha's path. Once you have attained this, you must then return to save those with whom you share karmic affinities, helping them to also attain Buddhahood. This is the original heart of the Buddha.
