The Endless Toil of Daily Life
In this world, people are constantly rushing about, driven by the fundamental needs of life. We spend our days seeking food, clothing, shelter, and transportation. We are caught in the relentless cycle of birth, aging, sickness, and death, suffering under the weight of our accumulated . Even the simple acts of seeking warmth in the cold, finding relief from the heat, or travelling to our desired destinations are all part of a busy life. In truth, this very busyness is already an expression of the turning of karma.
When ignorance arises, thoughts appear. Every thought and intention that we form, one after another, creates karma. When our basic needs are met, the mind does not stop. Instead, desires manifest within our thoughts. We begin to seek more than what is necessary:
- We crave more elaborate and abundant food.
- We transition from simple, practical clothing to luxurious garments for warmth or status.
- We seek faster and more complex tools for transportation, moving from walking to using animals, and now to modern machinery.
Throughout different dynasties and eras, these pursuits of food, clothing, housing, and transportation have taken on unique characteristics, yet the underlying attachment remains the same.
The Illusion of Material Progress
In our current era, people live surrounded by advanced technology and material wealth. We have allowed these external developments to replace our natural abilities. By relying entirely on machines and digital systems, we have created obstacles for ourselves. We have forgotten that once and mind are purified, we can access a natural ability that is far superior to any technology. In reality, beings driven by karma are merely creating more karma while attempting to satisfy these endless desires.
If one acts not for oneself, but for the benefit of all beings, one creates good karma and receives good rewards. However, if one acts out of selfishness or personal gain, and in doing so harms others, one depletes one's own wisdom and . This leads to the creation of negative karma and the suffering of bad consequences.
The Cycle of Samsara
In this world, the forces of good and bad karma alternate, appearing one after another. Within our own thoughts and intentions, it is difficult to find a moment of true purity. Life is a process of constantly floating and sinking in the vast ocean of karma, governed by and the causes and effects. Because we cannot escape the six realms of rebirth, we spend lifetime after lifetime trapped in the cycle of birth, aging, sickness, and death. We are unable to truly resolve the matter of life and death. This is the true nature of the world as experienced by all beings.
The Path to
In this world, many people do not know, or have never had the opportunity to learn, that their true self exists. Consequently, they allow their lives to be controlled by their karma and their . They live lives of , anger, sorrow, and happiness, unable to master their own destiny. They are trapped by the inevitable processes of birth, aging, sickness, and death. Yet, it is entirely possible to rediscover this true self and live a life of clarity, freedom, and ease, where the true self is the master.
Even many Buddhist practitioners or those who chant the Buddha-name have only a partial or confused understanding of their true self. Without proper guidance, they continue to chant and study while remaining trapped within the six realms of rebirth. They cannot transcend the three realms, and when their breath stops, they are still unable to enter the of Ultimate Bliss.
A Beacon of Hope in the Realm
Through diligent practice and the constant, sincere chanting of the Buddha-name, there is a way forward. Because Namo Amituofo is residing here at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Goombungee, Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia, a ray of hope has emerged. This light is for all beings of the six realms of rebirth, including those in the human world, and it extends to all beings throughout the vastness of the Dharma Realm. It is the path to leave suffering behind and achieve rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. Namo Amituofo.
