To learn the Buddha's teachings is to embark on a profound journey of returning to one's true nature. Within the vast ocean of the Buddha's teachings, the Pure Land Dharma Gate stands as a beacon of hope. It is important to understand that all Dharma gates are equal; there is no hierarchy of high or low. Each path is designed to suit different people, different times, and different locations. They exist to lead beings of varying potentials and karmic affinities toward the same ultimate destination: the rediscovery of our original nature, our true self, and our inherent Buddha-nature.
Among these paths, the Pure Land Dharma Gate—which focuses on the aspiration to be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss—is a supreme, skillful means for attaining Buddhahood. It is known as the One Vehicle, the great path to . This path is uniquely accessible to all, regardless of whether one possesses high, medium, or low capacity. Through the simple yet powerful practice of chanting the six-character name of , every practitioner can make a sincere vow to be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
Through the diligent practice of chanting, one may achieve the , a state of deep peace and wisdom. With this meditative concentration, one may even realise one's true nature and attain Buddhahood within this very lifetime. For those who wish to achieve this through the Pure Land path, it is essential to cultivate the three foundations of Faith, Vows, and Practice, thereby aligning one's heart with the Buddha-heart of Namo Amituofo.
At the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, Namo Amituofo truly abides. For the fourfold assembly of disciples who sincerely vow to engage in diligent purification, realise their true nature, and attain Buddhahood while helping others do the same, the path is clear. Whether you are a lay practitioner or have the karmic affinity to become a monastic, Namo Amituofo will assist you according to your vows, ensuring that your practice of chanting and self-cultivation bears fruit.
Life is limited, but the work of saving beings is endless. You must seize the opportunity in this lifetime to realise your true nature and save others. Every member of the fourfold assembly has, over accumulated lifetimes, formed deep connections with countless beings. These beings are waiting for you to achieve success so that you may guide them to leave suffering behind and be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. They are waiting in various realms:
To learn the Pure Land path is to cultivate purity in every aspect of your life. This means you must think good thoughts, see the good in others, speak kind words, and perform good deeds. Do not let your heart become stained by worldly attachments. Instead, look upon every being and recognise their inherent Buddha-nature, treating them with the utmost respect. To learn the Pure Land path is also to give rise to all and achieve the fruit of Bodhi, transforming your physical body into a sanctuary where all virtuous beings gather.
Furthermore, the Pure Land path teaches us the principle of equality, where no one is excluded. Just as the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss encompasses various levels and grades, your spirit will naturally rise until you enter the Land of Eternally Quiescent Light. This path also teaches us to respect all beings. The work of saving others begins with saving oneself.
