The Journey of Life

How have you been faring on this long journey of life, my children? As you travel through this human world, has your path been rugged and filled with obstacles, or has it been smooth and easy? Perhaps it has been a mixture of both, a tapestry of and sorrow woven together by the threads of your own experiences. Have you truly tasted the bitterness of birth, aging, sickness, and death—those inevitable sufferings that we find so difficult to control? Have you deeply felt the pain that arises from your own physical suffering, or the profound sorrow that comes from witnessing the suffering of all beings?

Some of you may have only tasted these sufferings briefly, while others may have known of them without truly experiencing their depth. Your hearts are often filled with joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness, constantly busy with the needs of . You spend your days trying to soothe a mind that is perpetually fluctuating, constantly rising and falling like waves upon the ocean. Yet, there is another way. One can cultivate a heart as still as water, seeing clearly the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way. When you reach this state, you will realise that all things are merely illusions and empty phenomena; they arise, they pass, and they vanish without a trace.

The Weight of Accumulated Memories

You must learn to broaden your heart. When you face the challenges of life, do so without allowing your mind to be disturbed. Learn to embrace all things, but do so in a way that leaves no trace behind. If you have not yet developed the meditative concentration to be this free, you will inevitably find your heart fluctuating, leaving behind deep impressions. You allow the experiences of the past to remain as memories and recollections, clinging to them long after the events have concluded.

Because of this, the fluctuations and traces from your accumulated lifetimes have not disappeared. They remain stored within your heart and recorded in your . If you continue to store these experiences, how deep and how high does the capacity of your heart and consciousness become? It is truly immeasurable. These past events, a mixture of Goodness and evil, have come together to form the person you are today. You may have reached a point where you no longer understand why you exist in this human world, or what your true purpose is.

The Illusion of the Past

The events of the past already exist within your consciousness. Although you may have forgotten them after drinking Meng Po’s soup, the footsteps of your life continue to follow the path determined by your past and the judgments you faced before your current birth. You have simply forgotten the details of that journey. However, you must stop looking back. Do not dwell on the past, for what is gone is gone. The burden upon your heart is already too heavy, and every time you look back, you only add more memories to your heart.

These memories are merely the accumulation of dust and defilements; they are not your original, true self. The purpose of your practice is to wash away these accumulated defilements so that you may finally realise your true self. This is why you are invited to come to Hsiang Kuang. Here, you must see the truth of all things clearly. Practitioner Su and the teachers will guide and educate you, helping you to understand that you must no longer allow yourself to be stained by dust. If you are stained, you must remove it.

Cleansing the Heart at Hsiang Kuang

Even the events of your past should not be touched, unless the karma has already manifested and requires you to resolve the conflict by inviting the spirits to hear the . Within our community, you will find many different states of being:

They are all waiting for the moment when, here at Hsiang Kuang, they can take their practice step by step, resolving their suffering and removing their defilements. All of this can be achieved by holding firmly to the sacred name of Namo Amituofo. Through serving all beings, you will gain their understanding and resolve the conflicts of your karma. The Path to True Freedom

The ultimate fulfilment of your journey is to dedicate yourself to the salvation team. By participating in the work of delivering sentient beings, you help others to chant the name of Namo Amituofo, leave suffering behind, and rediscover their own true self. This is the true meaning of your journey at Hsiang Kuang. When you help others find their way home, you are also completing your own path to . Namo Amituofo.
