The Journey from Monkey to the Western Pure Land
An Interview with Lay Practitioner Liu Chunyang
Recorded on February 27, 2026
This is a record of an interview with Lay Practitioner Liu Chunyang, the grandfather of Lay Practitioner Liu Qiaojing. He sought deliverance at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia and now resides in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects upon his journey from the cycle of rebirth to his ultimate liberation. Recorded by the chief writer, Fa Ning, on February 27, 2026.
Liu Chunyang speaks:
"Namo Amituofo. Today is a day of immense for me, Liu Chunyang. There is no happiness in the human world that can compare to the joy of being reborn in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss! I used to yearn for beautiful things, but now that I have encountered this—the greatest event of all—my heart is truly leaping with excitement. While in the , I was asked if I wished to be reborn in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. When I answered 'I want to be reborn,' I was arranged to attend this morning's assembly, where Practitioner Su personally guided us to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss."
A Heart Overflowing with Gratitude
"I am filled with gratitude and joy as I welcome this moment. I bow my head in thanks to Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su. Of course, I cannot forget my family, especially my granddaughter, Liu Qiaojing. She is a truly kind person, and she will surely receive great in return. It seems that we in the Liu family are all people of great blessings and broad minds! I am so grateful for the support of my family throughout this journey; it is because of them that I have the tremendous blessing to be reborn in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss."
The Long Years of Wandering
"After I passed away, I was unfortunate enough to be reborn as a monkey. I lived life after life as a monkey. Time passed neither quickly nor slowly; it just drifted by for all those years. Because of this, I have forgotten almost everything about my past life. I only remember that I was a monkey fed by humans. When the time came, we had to eat or relieve ourselves—I was just a monkey raised by people."
The Golden Light of Deliverance
"Decades of a monkey's life passed by. Then, not long ago, a beam of golden light suddenly shone upon me. I followed the light quite naturally, and I found myself in this space—the Western Dharma-Nature Land. Here, I suddenly transformed from a monkey back into a human. I looked just as I did in my previous life, but even younger and more dignified! I suspect my family would hardly recognise me in this state."
The Boundless of the Buddha
"The Western Dharma-Nature Land is already so beautiful. Many of my doubts have been resolved, and my heart has become vast and open. This is the power of the great compassion of Namo Amituofo, and it is also due to the compassionate heart of Practitioner Su that we have the magnificent scene here in the Western Dharma-Nature Land today—it truly is magnificent. Having stayed in the Western Dharma-Nature Land for these past few days, I have truly felt the Buddha’s compassion and mind-capacity; it is so vast and boundless, without end."
A Final Word to the Living
"I would like to offer one piece of advice to my family and friends who are still in the world: 'Do not take life too seriously.' This is a famous saying for many, yet few are able to truly live by it. Life is about letting go, being at ease, and following the conditions of the Law of Cause and Effect. Most importantly, you must chant Namo Amituofo. Only by chanting can you have the opportunity to be reborn in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. I can see this clearly from the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. That I am able to achieve this so easily is entirely thanks to Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su. Liu Chunyang is deeply grateful for the compassion of Namo Amituofo and the compassion of Practitioner Su."
"Namo Amituofo."
