The Shadowy Path of Rebirth

When one's lifespan reaches its end, one enters the dark, shadowy realms. One is reborn into a new form, changing shape and path. These words, drawn from the Infinite Life Sutra, describe the profound transition that occurs after death. When our physical life concludes, we are often pulled into the Three Evil Realms, where we must take on new forms and endure the consequences of our past actions.

The cycle of rebirth is not merely a concept; it is a reality that manifests in various forms of suffering. Depending on the karmic seeds we have planted, we may find ourselves in different states of existence: the Hell Realm, where one endures the most intense and unimaginable suffering; the Hungry Ghost Realm, where one is consumed by insatiable craving and deprivation; and the Animal Realm, where one experiences the limitations and struggles of various animal forms. In these three realms, beings suffer in different bodies, each with its own unique shape and its own specific, profound pain. It is a cycle that has repeated itself for countless aeons.

The Weight of Karmic Consequences

The spirit, which is neither born nor destroyed, has wandered through the vast, turbulent ocean of reincarnation for aeons. Throughout this long journey, we have endured the unbearable suffering of the Three Evil Realms, yet we have forgotten it. We have also enjoyed the fleeting pleasures of the Three Good Realms, yet we have forgotten those as well. Whether we enter a good realm or an evil realm after death, it is entirely the result of the karmic fruits we have harvested from our actions in this life.

Our next destination is also guided by the power of our intentions. It is the strength of these intentions—the dominant thoughts and desires we hold—that pulls us toward our next rebirth. Whichever intention is strongest at the moment of death will act as the primary force, leading us to the specific path we must follow. This is why the state of our mind at the end of life is so critical.

The Precious Opportunity of Human Life

Every being possesses the true self, yet it remains obscured by our attachments and delusions. It is only within the human world, by obtaining a human body, that we are granted the rare and precious opportunity to engage in True Cultivation. We must seize this moment while we still have the chance. At Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre, we provide the sacred environment for you to practise diligently. You must focus on purification, and then more purification, until you can fully enter the path of saving the world and rescuing all beings.

When your practice of chanting Namo Amituofo becomes powerful and effective, you will secure the opportunity for rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. If you can reach the level of an awakened being, you will gain the ultimate guarantee of being able to travel freely between this world and the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
