The Liberation of Lay Practitioner Luo Zhigang

Lay Practitioner Luo Zhigang, husband of Lay Practitioner Liu Caiying, sought deliverance through the compassionate guidance of Practitioner Su at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia. Having been successfully led to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, he shares his profound transformation and the realisation of true responsibility. This interview was recorded by the chief writer, Shi Fa, on January 16, 2026.

Luo Zhigang speaks:

"Namo Amituofo. It is thanks to my wife, Caiying, who arranged for my Chao Du, that I have had the opportunity today to be led by Practitioner Su into the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. I am profoundly grateful. Even more, I am filled with gratitude for the compassionate vows and actions of Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su. At the Western Dharma-Nature Land within the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, I witnessed Practitioner Su tirelessly taking on the suffering of sentient beings, performing Chao Du without a moment's rest. She is a true practitioner of the Buddha’s teachings.

The Weight of Worldly Responsibility

I knelt before the Buddha to express my deepest gratitude for the compassion of the Buddha and the saving grace of Practitioner Su. In the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, I no longer have what the world calls 'responsibilities.' I am free from the shackles of family, free from the entanglements of emotion. There is only the joy of the Dharma and the refreshing coolness of a mind that finds every wish fulfilled.

During my time listening to the Dharma in the Western Dharma-Nature Land, I became clearer day by day. In the past, I held onto the word 'responsibility' so tightly. I felt that a person could not exist without these burdens. I believed my parents were my responsibility, my wife was my responsibility, and my children were my responsibility. I felt that if a person in this world did not have these duties, they would be incomplete—that they could not even live.

The Simple Truth of the Spirit

However, during my time listening to the teachings in the Western Dharma-Nature Land, the Buddha-light, the Buddha-name, and the sound of Practitioner Su’s lectures continuously cleansed my soul. Slowly, I realised that everything in the world is unreal—it passes in a flash, changing and impermanent. I came to understand that the true responsibility is to take care of one's own spirit and to look after one's own heart. Having understood this truth, I shed tears of repentance before the Buddha. It was all so simple! People always make things so complicated, hurting themselves and harming others in the process.

Thank you for arranging my Chao Du. It has been of immense help to me. To be able to encounter a bodhimanda where the Buddha truly abides, and to be led by the Buddha into the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss—this is a matter of immense blessings. In the Western Dharma-Nature Land, I was happy and filled with the joy of the Dharma every day. And now, I have finally arrived at the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, a place I had dreamed of for so long. The dignity of its merits is beyond words. Inconceivable realms are visible everywhere in the Pure Land; it is truly a beautiful world without boundaries, without limitations, and without pain or suffering.

A World Beyond Description

There is a type of flower in the Western Pure Land that is incredibly beautiful, radiating a golden light. When I wish to see the flower in full bloom, it blossoms into a myriad of colours. When I have seen enough, it automatically returns to a golden bud, waiting to bloom again. It is very difficult for me to describe the beautiful scenery of the Western Pure Land because it is simply too magnificent! By the same token, it is difficult for me to even think about the past, because human life is truly too bitter, and the cycle of rebirth is truly too painful. I hope that you, too, will no longer live in the past and will instead set your sights on the Western Pure Land.

In this realm of the Western Pure Land, where there are no afflictions, one can hear the Dharma sound of Namo Amituofo flowing everywhere at any time. I, Luo Zhigang, knelt before the Buddha and made a vow: I will attain Buddhahood in the future, and just like Practitioner Su, I will extensively save all those with karmic affinity, leading them back to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
