An Interview with Venerable Yongning
Recorded by the Chief Writer, Shi Fajing, on December 7, 2022
This is a record of an interview with Venerable Yongning, who reflects on the profound importance of delivering . This account was recorded by the chief writer, Shi Fajing, on December 7, 2022, at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia.
Venerable Yongning speaks:
"Namo Amituofo. I am Venerable Yongning. Many people ask why it is necessary to perform for one's karmic creditors. The truth is, some understand the necessity, while others do not. This lack of understanding stems from a fundamental ignorance of why such deliverance is required in the first place. Let me explain this clearly: it is a matter of profound spiritual significance that affects every aspect of our existence.
as a Gathering of Spirits
Practitioner Su’s is able to open up space, revealing that every human body is filled with countless sentient beings. Within our fifty trillion cells, there are sentient beings everywhere. Whether it is our hair, skin, pores, blood, muscles, bones, or internal organs—every single part of our physical form is composed of these beings. Some are external spirits that have attached themselves to the human body, while others have been with us since time immemorial. These internal beings are our karmic creditors. They have followed us throughout our many lives, unable to let go, trapped by their own deep attachments, and suffering immensely as a result.
Whether they are internal karmic creditors or external attached spirits, they all require the power of the Buddha to help them depart from the space within our bodies and move toward the three higher realms. Without this intervention, they remain trapped in a cycle of suffering, and we, in turn, remain bound by the weight of their presence.
Resolving Conflict Before the Debt Comes Due
Today, we speak of Chao Du for karmic creditors. These beings gather within the body, and when the time is right, they act according to their personalities and to seek revenge against their karmic creditors. Think about it—if we can understand the importance of delivering them before they begin their retribution, and if we can sincerely resolve our conflicts with them, our bodies will suffer less from illness. Not only that, but we are also helping these beings achieve liberation. It is a compassionate act that benefits both the living and the spirits.
Practitioner Su possesses the Body. During every , he is able to save an immeasurable and boundless number of spirits. This includes the karmic creditors attached to every merit-holder. Through the grace of the Buddha and the intervention of Practitioner Su, these beings are helped to leave the bodies of the merit-holders, finally finding relief from their suffering and achieving liberation.
Changing Fate Through
Physical illness and the trajectory of one's entire life are inextricably linked to karma. Accompanying this karma are these very karmic creditors. If you can learn to change your own personality, perform Chao Du for them, and rescue them with true compassion, you will have the opportunity to turn your karma around. You might even change the course of your entire life, ensuring that these karmic creditors no longer follow you throughout your many lives.
Namo Amituofo."
