The Flow of Uninterrupted Devotion

Recorded and transcribed by Namo Amituofo’s disciple, Venerable HaiZe.

November 19, 2023.

Words of Namo Amituofo:

My children, please chant Namo Amituofo straight ahead, regardless of the time or place. Whether you are eating, using the restroom, cleansing your body, changing your clothes, or sleeping, maintain this practice 24/7 without interruption. Chanting then becomes a continuous, flowing stream that never stops.

When you chant Namo Amituofo while eating, you are performing a profound act of purification. The number of sentient beings within food is beyond counting. In soups, vegetables, fruits, vegetarian ingredients, rice, noodles, and seasonings, every single grain of rice or strand of noodle carries the presence of a sentient being. If you reflect on this, how many beings are you consuming in a single meal?

The Hidden World Within

These beings exist within the various nutrients of food, within the fibres of vegetables and fruits, and within liquids like soups. They float and move, existing in a spiritual form within the physical matter. Just as in the bodies of my children, within the countless physical cells of your internal organs, there exist innumerable sentient beings—whether they are , attached spirits, or demon crowds. The situation of food is the same; only the external appearance and function differ.

The beings within food also possess a true self and are, in essence, a Buddha. They are simply lost in deep delusion, their spirits entering the food to become food spirits. They are left to be cooked by people and consumed, only to be expelled and return to the food again. Or, they may be consumed by other beings such as cats, dogs, cows, sheep, or pigs, becoming a spirit residing within those bodies, coexisting with the host.

The Mirror of Spiritual States

At such times, the spiritual state of the human, cat, dog, cow, sheep, or pig influences the spiritual state of these coexisting beings. Whether it is peaceful and purified or restless and turbid, whether it is filled with Wisdom or foolishness and aggression, the beings within the body will reflect that same spiritual state. This is the reality of coexistence.

These situations are filled with variables and are subject to the law of impermanence. Before one becomes an awakened being, one is influenced by and the interference of these spirits, causing the mind to shift and change with the environment. When this body eventually succumbs to the suffering of birth, aging, sickness, and death, and the physical form is destroyed, the countless beings within—including the various food spirits—will depart from the body. They will then return to their respective realms based on their own karma. This is the natural order of the universe.

The Eternal Practice of Faith

This situation exists for all beings in the human world, the animal realm, and in other worlds where beings possess physical bodies. Therefore, please chant Namo Amituofo at all times. Maintain this practice 24/7, chanting then becomes a continuous, flowing stream that never stops. By chanting, you purify the countless spirits within your body and your internal organs and physical cells.

Those who have faith in the Buddha do not depart from Namo Amituofo 24/7; they have the Buddha in their hearts, in their vows, and in their actions. Namo Amituofo.
