The Noble Spirit of Correction

To recognise a fault and correct it is a noble spiritual spirit. To be a truly capable practitioner, one must possess three essential qualities: the ability to know one's faults, the awareness to see them clearly, and the willingness to correct them immediately. If you remain unaware of your faults or fail to awaken to them, you will continue to create negative . When the inevitable consequences of this karma manifest, you will be the one who suffers. Therefore, whenever you commit a mistake, you must strive to correct it without delay.

The Influence of

Often, the occurrence of a fault is not merely a random event; it is the manifestation of past karma. When a fault arises, it is frequently accompanied by the presence of karmic creditors. These spirits exist in the space within your body, waiting for the right conditions to seek balance for past grievances. When they act to collect these debts, they often place you in a state where you cannot be the master of your own mind, leading you to commit further errors. In such moments, it is often difficult to correct your behaviour because your clarity has been obscured.

as a Vast Universe

You must understand that the human body is a vast universe. Faults manifest through the actions of your Body, Speech, and Mind, as well as the words you speak. Furthermore, the nature of your relationship with others will influence the severity of these faults. Regardless of the circumstances, according to the Buddhism teachings, every thought and intention you have is a form of creating karma. You must cultivate a high level of awareness. A person who is truly awake can perceive even the most subtle thoughts and intentions as they arise. If you discover a fault, you must stop it immediately; this is the mark of a wise person.

The Foundation of

Stopping a fault allows you to progress. This is the hallmark of a diligent practitioner, and it is how your spiritual achievements are guaranteed to grow. Ultimately, creating a fault causes harm to both yourself and others. This is why, in our practice, we take Precepts as our teacher. By upholding these Precepts, you protect yourself from committing faults through your Body, Speech, and Mind, and you avoid the heavy karmic burdens that could lead to the hells. Precepts are the shield that protects the practitioner, ensuring that you can continue to advance on your spiritual journey.

The Three Learnings of Precepts, Samadhi, and Wisdom

Among the Three Learnings of Precepts, Samadhi, and Wisdom, the Precepts are the most fundamental. When you uphold the Precepts and remain free from faults, your heart will be at peace, and a peaceful heart naturally leads to meditative concentration. When you maintain this meditative concentration through the Precepts, your Wisdom (Prajna) will manifest. This is the natural unfolding of Wisdom (Prajna) from within a state of deep meditative concentration. In your diligent practice, especially when you chant Buddha's name, you are simultaneously cultivating all three: Precepts, Samadhi, and Wisdom (Prajna).

  • Chanting Buddha's name helps to calm the heart and mind.
  • It prevents you from falling into the trap of committing new faults.
  • If you do falter, the practice allows you to recognise and correct your path immediately.
  • Even if you feel you have taken a step back, you can always exert more effort and continue moving forward.
