Teachings from Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju
First Session of the Thrice Yearning Ceremony, November 9, 2024
The Foundation of True Success
Persistence and unwavering determination are the fundamental causes of success in your spiritual journey. When we speak of success here at Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre, we are not referring to worldly achievements. True success is the ability to combine your own diligent practice with the boundless power of Namo Amituofo to save yourself and, eventually, to reach the state of an awakened being so that you may truly save others. If you have not yet achieved this, you remain a being who is waiting for your help. If you cannot even save yourself from the cycle of rebirth, how can you possibly hope to save other suffering beings?
The Catalyst of Spiritual Tests
Throughout the process of your practice, you will inevitably encounter what we call demonic tests. These tests are not obstacles to be feared; rather, they are the very reason your practice can progress. These tests are swift and precise, striking directly at your weaknesses without any regard for your ego or comfort. They force you to confront your true self. You must change your personality traits, face your own problems with absolute honesty, and change your ways. Only by doing so can you remain clear-headed, pass these tests, and see your spiritual quality rise to a higher level.
Nourishing the Spirit Through Morning Service
To face your issues and change your ways with sincerity, the morning service at Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre is of vital importance. During this time, you are able to receive the direct energy and of . The degree to which you remain clear-headed and focused during this service determines exactly how much of this divine energy you can receive. Persistence and determination are the essential conditions that every practitioner must possess if they truly desire to reach the state of an awakened being.
Holding the Buddha-name Firmly
Do not allow yourself to be easily swayed or controlled by your , which would cause you to fall into lower realms of existence. I ask all students of Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre to hold the name of Namo Amituofo tightly in your hearts. When your practice of chanting Namo Amituofo becomes successful, it will be the greatest achievement for all students of this Centre. This is because Amitabha is constantly bestowing blessings upon you here. Your ability to hold the Buddha-name firmly and achieve success in your chanting is the most convenient and rapid path to liberation.
The Path to the Light
You must lift up the Buddha-name and engage in diligent practice. You must continue forward without retreating, without interruption, and without hesitation. If you can maintain this persistent effort, you will surely see the ray of hope and reach the light of an awakened being. Namo Amituofo.
