The Foundation of Inner Mastery

During the sixteenth day of the Assembly for Disaster Mitigation and Blessing, Namo Amituofo offered profound guidance on the nature of self-control. The power of self-control is not merely a constraint imposed from without; it is a profound responsibility that one must embrace from within. To possess self-control is to govern one's own mind with clarity, ensuring that the heart remains illuminated by the light of wisdom. You must learn to govern yourself, for true self-control is rooted in a clear and luminous heart.

Emptiness is the true nature of all phenomena, a state of absolute freedom and liberation. Yet, one must contemplate deeply: within this vast, empty expanse, does the capacity for self-control still exist? It is a vital question, for if one cannot master , one remains adrift in the currents of existence. If you lack the ability to master your own mind, you will easily become lost in the illusions of the world, unable to find your way back to the source of your true nature.

Navigating the Turbulent Sea of Life

Like a child who has yet to develop the discipline to guide their own steps, the untrained mind often wanders aimlessly, vulnerable to every passing desire. In the vast and turbulent sea of this world, there are countless worries and disturbances that pull at your attention. If you allow yourself to be constantly troubled by your own anxieties—self-created and self-perpetuated—how can you ever hope to attain true wisdom? You must recognise that these disturbances are reflections of an unmastered mind, and it is only through the cultivation of a steady, controlled heart that you can find the path to clarity.

The journey toward requires a steadfast commitment to the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way. When you are lost in the sea of worldly concerns, you must look inward. By practising and maintaining a disciplined heart, you can transcend the chaos of the world and find the peace that resides within the of Ultimate Bliss. Do not let your heart be swayed by the fleeting emotions of the moment; instead, anchor yourself in the wisdom of the Dharma.

Purifying the Inner Realm

Self-control is not merely a set of rules; it is the natural expression of a purified inner realm. To achieve this, you must focus on the following practices:

  • Purification of the Inner Realm:
  • You must actively cleanse your heart of negative influences, ensuring that no impurities remain to cloud your judgement.Cultivating Clarity:
  • Your heart must remain clear and bright, free from the fog of confusion, allowing the light of the Dharma to shine through.Self-Regulation: You must learn to exercise restraint over your own environment and reactions, ensuring that your conduct is always in harmony with the Truth.

When your inner realm is pure and your heart is clear, you will find that you are no longer a slave to external circumstances. You will be able to navigate the challenges of life with grace and , knowing that your heart is firmly rooted in the Right Way.

Taming the Ego and Its Desires

In this current era, the ego is often strong, and it is easy to be overwhelmed by the various forces that arise within us. We are frequently beset by desires that pull us away from the path, by wandering thoughts that obscure our true nature, by volatile emotions that disrupt our peace, and by stubborn personality traits that hinder our spiritual growth. When these forces are dominant, how can you lower your internal pressure and prevent your heart from losing its autonomy? It is a challenge that requires constant vigilance and a commitment to the Truth.

To tame this internal energy, one must know the truth of one's own heart. By living in the light of the Dharma, you will recognise your own inner radiance. You must not allow your desires to cloud your or dull your wisdom. When you see clearly, you know your own light, and you are no longer a slave to the impulses of the ego. Self-control is the reality of your inner realm; it is the knowledge that your heart is upright and that your actions are guided by the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way. By adhering to these principles, you ensure that your conduct is always in harmony with the Dharma. Namo Amituofo.
