The Price of Compassion: Deep Purification

An Interview with Venerable Chang Gao

Recorded on December 11, 2020

This interview was recorded on December 11, 2020. Venerable Chang Gao, who currently resides in the spiritual realms, reflects on the profound physical toll and spiritual significance of the deep purification process undertaken by Practitioner Su of the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre, detailing how her immense facilitates the deliverance of countless beings.

Venerable Chang Gao speaks:

"Namo Amituofo. The spiritual vacuum—the mechanism working upon of Practitioner Su—continues its task. As we reach the final stages, we are primarily dealing with extremely stubborn spirits. Some have burrowed into such profound, deep-seated layers of her being that they are attached with incredible tenacity, making them difficult to extract easily. These spirits, having reached such deep levels, have mostly been residing there for a very long time. They began entering her system as far back as when Practitioner Su first began to chant Buddha's name and perform visualizations to help people in Kuching."

The Protection of Righteous Power

"Practitioner Su’s past practice has ensured that even before she began her formal cultivation in this world, her body was already fundamentally different from that of ordinary people. The greatest difference lies in the 'righteous power' within her. This force is exceptionally powerful, providing her body with an extra layer of protection that prevents it from being easily disturbed by external spirits. Because of this, even when spirits attempt to invade her, they cannot penetrate into her internal organs; they are mostly restricted to the outer layers of her skin. In contrast, for an ordinary person in this world, once their thoughts go astray, spirits can seize the opportunity to enter directly into the body, potentially penetrating deep into the bones and causing structural damage."

A Heart Without Calculation

"Why do so many spirits seek out Practitioner Su? It is precisely because of her compassion and her vast mind-capacity. Any being from the human world or the spiritual realms that appears before her—if she can save them, she wants to save them all. She never calculates the cost, never asks for any reward, and never worries about the price her own body must pay. She simply saves them first, without hesitation. Therefore, from the moment she began helping others through visualization, spirits began to invade, accumulating deep within her skin. This time, as her skills have increased, she has performed for the entire land, allowing vast numbers of spirits and crawling, flying creatures to invade her system. She has even performed deliverance for the fifty trillion cells within the bodies of the fourfold assembly. The resentment of these beings is so intense, and their numbers so vast, that it has caused obvious symptoms to erupt on her skin."

The Necessity of Sacrifice

"We are taking this opportunity to ensure that the spirits residing in the deepest layers of her skin—whether they have been there for five, ten, or more than a decade—can be slowly and thoroughly extracted. The spiritual vacuum continues its work to ensure every last spirit is removed. In this way, Practitioner Su will possess an even purer and clearer body, enabling her to save even more beings."

A Reflection on Deliverance

"Seeing the wounds on Practitioner Su’s body, I feel deeply moved. Without her sacrifice, these spirits would have no opportunity to be saved. Those who are insects would continue to be insects; those who are ghosts would remain ghosts; the demon crowds pressed beneath the mountains would remain trapped; and the spirits of the physical world—wishing to be as free as the wind, mountains & rivers—would remain bound to their state. No spirit can rely on their own power to leave the space they inhabit. Therefore, a person with such resolve, compassion, and vast mind-capacity as Practitioner Su is truly vital. Yet, few people in this world are willing to sacrifice oneself for others as she does. If there were just one more human like her, countless more spirits could attain liberation. It is a pity that I no longer have a physical body; otherwise, I would truly wish to learn from her compassion and sacrifice myself for the sake of all beings."

Namo Amituofo. Recorded by the chief writer, disciple Shi Fajing."
