Rectifying Body and Mind
Words of , recorded by the chief writer, Venerable HaiZe, during the noon offering on April 15, 2023.
Consider the human body. It is not a singular, independent entity, but a complex structure formed by the combination of multiple . The four elements—earth, water, fire, and wind—have come together to form this physical form, which is itself a collection of countless cells and countless beings. As you grow and move through life, your body continues to gather more beings. These include and spiritual attachments that gradually manifest within your physical form, further increasing the number of beings residing within you.
These beings are not strangers; they are connected to you by karmic affinity. They are beings you have encountered, seen, or lived with throughout your past and present lifetimes. Whether the interactions you shared with them in the past were filled with righteousness or conflict, kindness or malice, the memories of these events are stored within the very cells of your body.
These memories remain dormant until they are stirred. If they are not triggered, the karmic conditions and the causes and effects remain hidden, and their corresponding results do not manifest in your life. However, if these memories are stirred, the conditions mature, and the results manifest before you. At that moment, your Body-Mind-Spirit will experience the consequences of these past actions:
My children, you must understand the true importance of the body. Its purpose is to allow you to engage in True Cultivation. Because you possess this physical form, you have the ability to act according to the intentions of your heart. You can face the situations that arise before you and use your body to express the heart's intent through your actions, your expressions, and your words.
When you handle these situations in a way that is consistent with the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way, you are directly elevating the quality of your spirit. Every action you take is a choice that shapes your spiritual journey.
When the actions of your body create a positive and uplifting influence for other beings and for your own heart, the quality of your Body-Mind-Spirit is elevated together. Conversely, if your actions create negative influences, you are effectively placing obstacles and interference in the path of your own growth. This is why many practitioners find that their practice does not seem to make progress; they are inadvertently allowing their physical actions to hinder their spiritual development.
Once you have reached the state of an awakened being, the importance of the body takes on a new dimension. You remain in this world to be with all beings, not for your own sake, and not for any selfish purpose. In this state, you can utilise the body to its greatest potential, acting as a vessel of to help all beings leave suffering behind and find happiness.
