The Foundation of a

When the heart is pure, the land is pure. This is the fundamental truth of our existence. My children, as you walk the path of practice, you are constantly engaged in the process of sweeping away the dust and removing the defilements that have accumulated over countless lifetimes. In this daily effort, have you begun to realise the profound meaning of purity? Can you feel the subtle, refreshing fragrance of a pure heart radiating naturally from within you?

True practice is not found in the external world, but by looking inward. You must search within, reflect within, and reform within. Only through this dedicated inner work can you achieve the true effect of purification. It is only in this state of profound purity that you can rediscover your true self. If you allow your heart to remain stained by worldly attachments, you will find yourself drifting further and further away from your original nature.

The Daily Practice of Purity

How can one truly realise this state of purity in daily life? It begins with the simplest of actions:

  • Measured Speech:
  • Speak with a calm and steady rhythm, neither too fast nor too slow, ensuring your words are thoughtful and kind.Attentive Listening:
  • When others speak, listen until they have finished completely, showing them the respect they deserve.Patience in Expression: Do not be in a hurry to express your own opinions; instead, learn to value the perspectives of others.

When your heart is pure and free from the clutter of attachments, your body, mind, and spirit will all undergo a deep purification. This state of being can slow the process of ageing, prevent illness, or even help in the healing of existing ailments. At the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, Namo Amituofo and Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju observe your spiritual roots, your conditions, and your readiness. Those who are sincere may receive messages from Namo Amituofo or Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju, and be granted the precious opportunity to record the Buddha’s words or the teachings of our teachers.

The Equality of the Heart

My children, you must learn the virtue of equality. Do not let the mind of comparison—the tendency to rank others as higher or lower—take root within you. The moment you begin to think about who is superior, who is inferior, or who should listen to whom, you have already lost your sense of fairness, justice, and equality. At that very instant, your heart is no longer pure; it has become clouded by the dust of discrimination and ego. When such a thought arises, you must immediately awaken your awareness. Recognise that this thought is incorrect and stop it at once. By doing so, you can prevent the continuation of these dangerous, deluded thoughts.

Appearance Arises from the Mind

It is said that appearance arises from the mind. A pure and dignified countenance is the result of cultivation, whether from past lives or from the efforts you make in this present life. Your inner state is always reflected in your outward appearance. Therefore, you must put in the work within your own heart. When you do, the qualities of and wisdom will naturally manifest. These qualities are an inherent part of your true self, and they will emerge spontaneously from a pure heart. This infinite compassion and wisdom is the true mark of an awakened being.

If you can remain, at every moment, in the state of the : , Compassion, , , then you are truly a person of purity—a person who has realised their true nature. Namo Amituofo.
